The Long Island Sports Hub Middle School division resumed on Sunday, January 6th with the Red Hots Black and Red Hots Red teams both recording wins, 18-8 over Huntington Revolution and 14-12 over Huntington. Team Elevate handled North Shore, 17-7.

The Top Guns 2018 and Team Elevate both remain undefeated at 3W-0L-0T followed by the Red Hots-Red at 3W-1L-0T.

Action resumes on Sunday, January 13th with the Top Guns 2018 playing Huntington, Red Hots-Red against North Shore, and Team Elevate facing Red Hots-Black in what should be an interesting match-up.

I think most people (yes those of us that have no life) would like to see 2018 Top Guns Black play 2018 YJ Blue CR team. Alot of talent on both sides - last year they did not get to finish there much anticipated game at national draw and ended in a tie no less!! This year CR's team I hear does not have there starting goalie - do not know how that will affect things.
These 2 teams are probably the top 2 teams on the island - sorry if i am offending anyone

they are both playing national draw and all star express this summer so they should match up in those tournaments; plus I heard that YJ is going to play at Hofstra, but not before the two orgs, led by SS and CR get in a big circle, hold hands, and sing KUMBAYA!

BOTC had a meeting with Coach Smith at Hofstra on Wednesday during this last week - needless to say, we were not talking about an all-Long Island girls match-up just yet.

The Lacrosse-By-3 ClaSSic Showcase is getting a very positive reception with more than 50 teams already registered! Coaching registration for the Showcase is already taking shape.

Were they able to get 'affordable' hotel rooms for the out of state teams; or are the bulk of the teams 'commuting' teams?

YJ 2018 over Elevate 2017 last night at Sports Hub... Despite below par ref inconsistancies, and a score keeper that couldnt keep track of which team was home or away! Nice job YJs!!

I assume you mean the YJ JV team is the 2018 team? Is there any reason (other than CR and SS) why the TG 2018 is playing in the MS div and the 2018 YJ (if it is them) is playing in the HS div?

Yes, that is the YJ 2018 Team. No idea why, CR is not coaching the winter league. The girls looked good though!

Are hotel costs ever a consideration when any LI team heads to NJ or Maryland?? I think probably not... the Tournanment blocks out a few rooms and gets a group rate...Ny prices are NY prices

The same is true at Inline 1 in Mt. Sinai - a total of 4 TG teams (2-2017 and 2-2018) in the MS bracket and 3 YJ teams (at least one of which is 2017) in the HS bracket.

BOTC is happy to share elements of the discussion.

First, expect that the University connection will remain a strong recruiting tool and that the regional connection that Coach Smith enjoys will be to the benefit of Long Island and the surrounding areas. The plans beyond the Lacrosse-By-3 Showcase Tournament will be shared in due course.

Second, expect that Hofstra Lacrosse will be working hard to develop a connection with the Long Island Lacrosse Community in terms of following both the Men's and Women's Division I Lacrosse programs.

Our discussions focused on these two elements and more to form a stronger relationship from the University to the Long Island and broader New [lacrosse] tristate community.

Seriously 2019 TG black in the 5-6 grade division with all town teams many of which are younger, that's pathetic.

The Top Gun and Huntington score is reversed and incorrect on the site. Top Gun won 19-11.

Having standings is the worst thing that they could do in these indoor leagues - the main objective should be practicing together and players working on their weaknesses, not the best handful of players dominating a 7v7 game that is meaningless. Some coaches and programs get it, but unfortunately most don't! Teams are actually bringing ringers to play in some of these games that they feel they MUST WIN - crazy!

BOTC has been anxiously awaiting this type of response. Question for you : exactly when do the results count? In all of our experience with youth sports, no team, coach, or player goes out to "lose". Every team shows up knowing that the results are being recorded.

If you do not want to have a true league with results, book indoor time and run a scrimmage. Under those circumstances, there will be no scores and no standings.

Do you really believe that there's a correlation between 7v7 indoor and a real lacrosse game? Also, Coastal, Bethpage, Farmingdale, Mt Sinai indoor and every other winter league we've ever played kept no standings, most didn't even have scores at the games. Do you think that there's any benefit to a team and it's weaker players in particular for them to be playing to win at all costs in winter league indoor games? Especially at the younger ages where the entire game can be decided by 2-3 kids on each team.

Whether indoor soccer or lacrosse, the results of the small sided games are often well correlated to outdoor success. While that might break the hearts of some purists, it is the truth.

BOTC believes that receiving the services provided by a league - including results and standings - should be a standard for the money being charged to families and the teams.

Yes. The biggest problem reported to us here at BOTC regarding leagues and tournaments deals with unbalanced competition. Until results are recorded as a standard procedure, teams will continue to either be placed too high or too low in competitive ability.

Keeping records is actually more important for weaker teams to make sure that these development players are not "run over" by more seasoned or skilled players and teams.

Win-at-all-cost mentalities will exist in sports - and in particular youth sports - whether or not standings are kept. Bottom line is that if a score is kept, someone in the stands is making notes on the winners and losers.

For some reason, lacrosse just does not want to cross the great divide of actually ranking teams - perish the thought. Until you are willing to actually rank the teams into brackets, you will never get over this unbalanced competition issue.

Should a team like the TG 2018 Black have played in the high School Division; they are 7th graders. And what about the Team Elevate team; they are mostly eighth graders. I being these teams up since they are 1-2 in the, 'gasp' standings!

Talk with the people who run YJ, TG, Express, 91, Liberty, etc and they will all tell you that these games are meaningless - they are more concerned with avoiding injuries than the standings. As an aside, indoor soccer is a joke, 6v6 is like watching a ping=pong game, does not begin to resemble a soccer game,. If anything it levels the playing field for the slower, less physically gifted team

These indoor winter leagues are about making money, they are not interested in each teams competitive objectives and are not going to turn away anyone that will pay them. Is there much point in an elite travel team beating up a PAL team? I'm sure it's counter-productive from both vantage points,

I agree with cage, Lacrosse needs to implement a system of ranking teams. Until an accurate ranking system is put in place we will continue to have lopsided games.

When you enter US lacrosse , which many of the summer travel tournaments are, they keep track of the complete history of each team, who they played, stats etc.... which should help them put teams in correct divisions in other future US lax tournaments. Each of these indoor winter leagues is its own little closed world with teams coming and going, same with all the non uslax sanctioned tournament. The skill of lax players may be high coming from LI, but the organization of it is a complete mess. Maybe all the indoor leagues should ban to gether to create a much larger leaugue, instead it is individual money making leagues, maybe they should reach out to US lax to organize it with everyone under one blanket.

YJ 2018 wanted competition. They would rather lose to High School girls and increase their skills, than beat up on town teams just to feel good about themselves. It's about development, not ego.

Why is the YJ /Cyclones game from this weekend marked a forfeit?
