From experience, coaches almost always honor the commits they inherit but then find ways to get out of and push or force inherited players out of the program to free up those scholarship slots year 2 and 3. They make it miserable for girls they don't want around

Not all scholarships are guaranteed for four years, plenty of schools it changes from year to year

"All athletic scholarships are year to year"

Why post if you have no idea what you are talking about. You are either just trying to scare people or just completely ignorant .Some scholarships are guaranteed for all 4 years and it is spelled out in their NLI and is something you should have discussed with your future coach.

“It really is not an issue either way, though,” Saban said. “A player’s on a one-year scholarship and it’s automatically renewable. It’s not like you can just take it away. And if he’s on a four-year scholarship and does something in violation of university policy or athletic policy, you can still take it away. It really is insignificant.”

Your point being ?? Yes any scholarship can be taken away for a violation of university policy etc even a one year scholarship can be taken away at any time if the player does not live up to their obligations ie GPA etc. The point is that many schools are guaranteeing the scholarship for all 4 years if you stay within the guidelines and this is something you should ask about when an offer is made not when you arrive on campus.

That is just my point .........it is not guarunteed.......guarunteed means guarunteed no matter what.......I agree though that most are honored because most kids are good kids and follow the guidelines.....that's all.

Wrong. They can be year to year and they can be for the four. It is a contract, tell them the terms you need. If they really want you they will meet your demands. And yes they will meet four year demands if they are confident you are a can't miss pick. And yes all these terms should be spelled out in the verbal negotiation. Take detailed notes for reference and go over them with coach to make sure you are on the same page when it comes time to nail it down later. And to another poster, when a coach over extends on the scholarship and the athelete under performs, they will honor the commitment, and yes it often becomes a ugly, miserable position for a player to be in, with the coach hoping the player bails. I have seen this many times and players often transfer or just stop playing and have to take out additional loans to replace the scholarship money and finish the basket weaving major at an overpriced school. Incredible amount of stress to perform on these student athletes.

Thanks for that eye opening bit of nonsense. There is not one parent that thinks their kid can never go to class, fail every test, drug test etc. and keep their scholarship . So it seems your point was to waste everyones time. When you said all scholarships are year to year you obviously were clueless, now that you realize you should have asked the coach before little Susie committed it seems like you want to act like it does not matter.

I don't think anyone is getting scared because of this persons posts. I think we all understand that scholarships are guaranteed if the college athlete fulfills his/her end of the bargain. From what I am reading from this person.....who posts it is common sense that they are not guaranteed if the athlete is an issue for one of various reasons....

This may be true on one level. We had many offers outlining each of the four years of partial scholarships with the open end of adding additional based on performance. But the minimum was guaranteed. It has to be, how else can you plan?

You are wrong! Athletic Scholarships are not year to year at all schools. Big ten guarantees in writing the Athletic Scholarship for 4 years. Clearly, this is your first rodeo.

I guess Nick Saban hasnt been to the rodeo either.......

That is correct, have a son at a B1G School on scholarship, not a lax player. Signed a B1G Letter of intent as well as for the school. Indiana was the first school to make this policy and rest of conference followed.

Yes you are correct a school can offer 4 yr scholarships but they are virtually non existent, especially in Lacrosse . So I will stick to may post that they are year to year.

It’s actually very significant. It’s extremely rare for a kid to lose their scholarship. If they do, it’s because they probably just don’t want to play anymore. I have two at a big ten, and there scholarships are secure for the 4years. This is a big bonus and relief for us as we don’t have to worry about the scholarship changing. You are a dope to think otherwise.

Mine is in year 4 of a guaranteed 50% at a Big Ten. The scholarship amount has never been a concern. People on this board are clearly uninformed.

You really are dense , just because you did not discuss it or they were not willing to offer it to your kid multi year offers are common place in lacrosse so again stop posting when you are clueless.

The Big 10 guarantees all athletic scholarships in all sports for four years. It was part of the settlement reached after the Northwestern football players threatened to unionize. The Pac 12 followed shortly after. So they r not virtually non-existent.

The only thing that is clear by your "cryptic" post is you think you are smarter than you are. When someone posts completely incorrect info and they are called clueless it is not assuming too much even if you capitalize ASSUME like a child shouting for attention.

The TRULY only thing that is CLEAR about you, is that you are ANGRY and you love to belittle anyone. I guess THEY would call that PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE. Again, you assume way too much and your responses just come across as the BULLY of the board.

You need to keep calling people names....and making judgements against people you don’t know.

Would hate to be your kid ...... “I said get back on the wall and do 1000 ....what are you dense?”

Btw .....Happy Thanksgiving

What's funny is you are doing the same exact thing you are saying this poster does. Curious if you believe using capitals is passive aggressive. I also dislike when posters put info out that is incorrect but generally just try to correct it and not call them names. In this case scholarships are given out that include multiple years ,case closed.

I am not the same poster that is why I said you assumed. The capitals were on purpose the second time.

Let’s move on and move passed this topic and quit going back an forth. It really is silly by both of us.

Anyway......

Everyone enjoy your thanksgiving.

Did not assume anything , you seem clueless just like the original poster.

The big 10 rules state that all scholarships must be 4 year offers, it is the only conference to do so. All other conferences are year to year, if anybody listened to the news, or actually did a little research you would know. I found out by listening to news radio about 2 years ago.

Or how about this one , it explains it a little better for a wise [lacrosse] like yourself, but to dumb it down for you they both say that NCAA rules changed a rule that started in '71 and lasted to 2012 saying schools can only offer 1 year at a time to multi year deals, but most schools do not , only the big 10, at this point, makes all offers 4 year mandatory..... but please tell me I'm wrong again to prove how stupid you sound

About what? I’m a different poster, and my child is at a big ten with an athletic scholarship which is guaranteed in writing for all four years.

So just to be clear, you are saying only big 10 schools give out 4 year deals?

That is what he originally said but is now trying to back track on because he was wrong . Big 10 is only conference that mandates all offers be guaranteed for 4 years , all non big ten schools can offer multi year scholarships but are not mandated to do so . My daughter received offers from schools from several different conferences and all were guaranteed for 4 years as long as she remained academically eligible .

Honestly, you people are either very dumb, Or are so afraid of being proven wrong that you will twist anything to suit your case, this is my original posts first sentence..."The big 10 rules state that all scholarships must be 4 year offers, it is the only conference to do so." What is so confusing about that? where do you see me backtracking ?what your daughter received was an offer (and seeing as you're this dumb, I'm sure you tell everyone it's a "full ride") for 1 year that Her coach will honor for all four years, but the coach is not obligated, in any way, to honor that commitment next year unless she is in the big 10. If your daughter gets arrested, or hurt to where she can not play, or her play falls off for any reason, or if the coach leaves the program and a new coach decides to not renew the next year, your daughters offer is done. Neither the school or by any other conference rules do they have to honor the scholarship. That is the meaning of a Guaranteed 4 year offer, you get that amount no matter what happens except failing grades.

WOW ,you really have something wrong with you . Try to understand this , schools outside the big ten can and do make multi year scholarship offers that are as binding and even more so in some cases than are mandated by the big ten . The terms are generally spelled out in their NLI. Because you felt the need to bring my daughter into this her scholarship is guaranteed for all 4 years as long as she is academically eligible . Again because you brought it up it covers 100 percent of her tuition and fees . She has to pay her roomand board costs . Again you are wrong in what you originally said and continue to be wrong .
