The reason they struggled that day at NXT was b/c the grass was not properly cut for the tournament.
It's true. It was holdback grass. It was much older and taller than the other grass. It just wasn't fair. When is US lacrosse going to do something

Most all of the teams below the 7th grade are all coached by JC - are there fathers that coach TB teams above that grade? Absolutely, but that isn't relevant to this age group. And even then, considering some of the lax pedigrees of said fathers, they seem to be fully qualified and accomplished coaches. And, as though there is no fathers coaching the 'top' programs . . . !
Bentz (no kids, graduated Hofstra) runs 2022
Cat runs 2023. 2023 b - Cat
Cat jr runs 2024
Cat runs 2025
Kieran O'Brien and Angelo Caiazzo 2026
Cat jr 2027 2028
From 2022- 2028 there are absolutely no daddy head coaches. Only in 2023 are there assistants but one is the Hs coach at massapequa. And they all do not make any decisions cat makes them all. Playing time is earned and the best players play.
2024 has both an A and a B team this season, and JC is personally coaching the B team while Cat Jr is handling the A team

Can we move on from TB and move on from bashing all the teams, every week it's someone new. Can there be any informative info. put on here. It really is a shame the stupidity that goes on here. I hope most of you realize half the people that post about a particular team are not even on that team, they are just looking to stir the pot. They are looking to get a rise out of all you parents that respond to this nonsense, grow up. I really doubt half the posts about TB being the greatest and all the excuses for losing games were from a TB parent. That goes for the same for any other program just TB happens to be the flavor of the week. Some people love TB some people hate them, some people love Express some people hate them etc... Let's use this sight for what it was designed for, good luck to all in the upcoming season.

Wow! Cyber bullying at it's finest. People are saying TB makes excuses, yet all the talk about free tuition for better players to join. That's an excuse in and of itself. If you lose it's because TB gave free tuition to quality players that other organizations developed. As a father of a newly recruited TB player, I cannot say the previous teams developed him at all. The position he plays had zero training from his previous 3k/year team in regards to development. Don't fool yourselves. Natural talent trumps all the BS your over priced club will tell you. All the money on the world cannot transform your B rated son into an All American.

TB charges $1750 they make so much money that they are scholar shipping all new players just to be good, you are a moron. How about they are a good team, well coached and some parents out there realize that and think there son could become a better player being coached by a College coach.

How about the coaching staff and the success they have brought in different players. Top players who were sitting behind daddy coaches sons got fed up with it. You all are morons thinking they give out scholarships. Your just jealous they left your teams

Wonder why they never went to play on TH when they had to pay to be on the team??? Shocking, not really. Dangling free tuition in front of people, then boosting how kids came to you b.c they got tired of the teams that helped develops them. But at least you admitted that TB is screwing over the other families. It's one thing to say the tuition is for pract space and extras, but i guess TB banks cash to recruit kids to play over the ones that paid. Wait to next year when those scholarshipped aren't anymore and see what happens.

I wouldn't want my son coached by a D2 college assistant coach who is a hack and try's to intimidate Ref's when he's losing.

Explain exactly how JC is a hack - explaining would require specific details. And i'd rather my son played for a coach that yelled at the refs than a coach that verbally rips the heads off of his players - saw way too much of the latter last season from some of the 'top' program coaches.

lol natural talent. You do not know lacrosse at all. Athletes who train hard and put in the time are the ones who are successful. Practice and on your own time is where you get better. Not during games.

Typical TB lie, "father of a newly recruited TB player". This post was from an assistant coach, whether it was JC or a daddy coach.

If you think they are banking enough cash with their tuition to the extent that they can offer up a whole slew of scholarships for one grade, let alone others, then maybe you should go back and learn some math!
You really want to break down what it actually costs? Because it's no where near the tuition clubs charge. Profit margins on travel lacrosse are double digits. Most clubs are using school fields for free in spring and summer and run their Club out of their own home so minimal overhead (very few exceptions). The majority of tuition money goes to Directors and Coaches. So if a Director forgoes a few dollars for better talent the theory would be it will pay dividends in the long run. Maybe you should go back and learn some basic fundamentals of business!
Typical costs

-Uniform including shooting shirt = $100
-Tournaments ($1800 to $1200 each ÷ 24 players)= $75 each
-Winter indoor training space - $300 hr ÷ 24 players = 19 each for 1.5 hrs
-outdoor training space - $150 hr ÷ 24 players = 10 each for 1.5 hrs

Add up what you get from your club and see how much the club banks. Most coaches don't get paid all that well either

Coaches get paid ~$1,500 - 2,000 for head coach, a little less for assistant. There is also expenses for travel and hotel for coaches for away tournaments. You left out a lot on uni costs - helmet alone more than double the costs there. Add in a bag or anything else {jacket) , and you are beyond $100 before the helmet! 24 players? Not that many on every team - probably not the average based upon all of the teams my 3 sons have played on over the years with numerous programs.
Ok so do the math
Uniform. 100
Tournaments (5) 375
Indoor winter (15) practices 285
Outdoor practices-- free. No one is paying for those fields! After school anyone can use the fields

Total 760pp. So for TB it's a 2 for price of 1. Half the team is paying for the other half. JC gave up 11 grand and based on how many teams he's coaching he made it up in other grades.

If your son got cut you should be happy. At least your not the schmuck writing a check for someone else's kid!

Then divide it by the number of players on your team. Most teams average 22 players, but a lot of the b/c teams more for some reason, Truthfully and off subject. Take away 3 or 4 players for coaches kids and scholarshipped players.

$4500 for 3 coaches ÷ 18 players (hopefully that is better) = $250

You can Google the price of helmets (cascade s $295) and other equipment/clothes they add in as "extras" but since the club's buy in bulk or partner up with companies, warrior is doing it, they get pretty steep discounts on the stuff. Wonder if the gets passed down or in their bank?

Plus most tournament are far less than the 1800 ( even Google that) but figure $100 on the high side per player

Hotel room, what around $250 a night. Gas and tolls, another $100.

Insurance, (even though most just seem to bank on us lacrosse) $45 a player.

The point is, less than $1000 of what you pay goes towards the actual lacrosse experience, not including the extra clothes and equipmet some clubs required to get.

Some clubs out their breakdown the cost of were all the tuition fees go to, but most just give a price, that GOES UP every year, and say pay this.

Head coaches on teams average 3500-5000. Igloo hc makes 10,000.

Every team probably has 1-2 free rides, every team has kids recruited and promised a spot before tryouts, every team has kids never given the chance to prove themselves vs. some of the starting line that is perceived to be stronger or is the coach's son or the coach's sons best friend. It's the ugly under belly of this sport and youth sports in general. Find a team that your kid gets decent minutes and you can afford. If you are spending north of $3000/year on youth lax to watch the starting line play the majority of the game then you are getting hosed. Unless your kid loves collecting t-shirts and taking pictures where it's obvious they didn't see the field since they are not dropping in sweat. This BS on BOTC is out of control. good luck to all kids. I hope they all improve and have fun this coming season. Fellow parents sit back and enjoy your kids. They'll be off to college before we know it and you'll look back at all this nonsense and realize your craziness on this site was for you trying to fulfill YOUR dreams of being able to say your kid plays for one of the strongest teams.

I echo that 100%. On top of the fact the post was articulate, concise and realistic which most of us won't admit, it would be great for everyone to be able to come onto BOTC and get decent information.

Why did Express Haugen take so many kids this year? Roster size getting close to 30. Are there so many hold backs that they didn't have enough to go to Denver? Or is this just like the 2022 team that has over 30 kids but only 15 play?

The ugly honesty of this sport articulated perfectly. Unfortunately in a few days it will be forgotten and the nonsense will start up again! The person who posted it should repost each week! 6 years is going to fly!!

This is the Express status quo - half a team subsidizing the other half! Keep laying out those big bucks so you can say your son 'plays' on Express!

Is the original post from an Express parent? How do you know they have taken 30 kids. I am not an Express parent but I know many people on the team and we have discussed team dynamics. Nobody mentioned the team size was expanding considerably from years past.

Well they added players this year, at least 3 of them so unless they got rid of someone they are approaching 30

Whether or not you agree or disagree with this post, parents will do whats in their families/child best interest. If paying 4K in tuition fees for youth lacrosse floats their boat, fine there is no law against that. Some kids don't have a problem with not seeing as much playing time as others, but go along with collecting tee shirts, that's fine to. If you don't have a problem with daddy ball, that's also fine. If you feel BOTC is out of control, turn the channel. My point is , the market is flooded with many different options for parents to select from, it's not one size fits all. When you mix children with competition, and so called status, couple that with parents emotions, organizations know parents will spend above and beyond for their kids. But remember, everything double edged, there is a flip side to it all.

Express added a lot more than 3. Wait for that first practice. They didn't want to cut kids they should have so now we have to many kids.

You forgot to mention that most club owners are slimy scum bags.

Not an Express parent, however a good friend son on team and he said they are at 27 players to date. I guess you will see at the Coloumbus tournament they are supposedly playing in it.

That seems reasonable given they have a few players that cannot compete in the WSYL due to age ineligibility and they want to field at least 24 kids for that event. 27 is large but not wholly unreasonable given the potential for injuries.

Its a lot of kids when only 14 of them will play, there will be a lot of unhappy kids/parents. The will all complain but they will keep coming back for more.

Those are B teams. Express will win the t-shirts again.

AJ has a very good track record of playing all kids equitably. This may not be the case for the big games but he compensates for this and, over time, all kids get enough playing time. How do you know he will only play 14 kids?
