Here is the frustrating part with these teams. They are not good enough to compete with the Top 5 teams in the AA bracket. They kill all the B teams that they play so those games suck to watch. There is very little competitive lacrosse in this bracket on Long Island !

There are plenty of tournaments that have A team divisions that are not AA teams - it's like the whole lax world wants to pretend that there is not a whole swath of talent between AA teams and true B teams. It's a major reason youth lax is so far down the curve when compared to other sports. The A teams from many of the non-Igloo/Express/91 clubs are very good, and are not B (talent) teams.

My son played on 9D1 A team last year. We beat up on B teams and Struggled against true A teams like Outlaws, Express, just to name a few. There is a big gap in talent between AA, A, and B no doubt about it!

When you say "true A teams", with respect to Outlaws are you referring to their Select or Gold team? Similar question Re: Express - which team(s)? Even under a properly structured talent system, which lax does NOT even come close to having (!), there will be weaker A teams that will not have much success against other A teams, especially the stronger A teams. That's the way it's supposed to work! That does not mean the weak A team is B, nor does it mean the strong A team is really AA. A weak A team should probably play a mix of tourneys both at the B and A level (more A than B, though) - there are benefits in doing both for team and player development. Similarly, a strong A team should play in both A and AA tourneys. A strong B team should probably play in an A tourney, but stick mostly to B tourneys. Until people are honest about assessing teams and creating tournaments properly around talent levels, the lax tourney world will continue to be a mess. An age-based system for all pre-HS levels would also help that problem.

Word is the precking order will be the same. Give me a break with these additions and we got this and they got that. Unless the top kids from the big 3 move, it's not changing the overall landscape. Will a team give a tough game to the top 3, sure. But in the end, nothing is shifting I'm a significant way. Fact! If your son's team was B last year, it's B this year.

Ha ha...true A teams like outlaws, outlaws is a solid B team. Always lost to 91, always will. Never beat igloo, express etc. and never will. Outlaws are somewhere between 4-8 on LI and not close to top 10 in LI/Maryland.

I have a son at this age and all the kids seem to know each other, This is what I am hearing;

1. Express A - didn't make many changes that will effect them. 1st team will be very good as usually but a lot of the second teamers left or will be on there B Team.

2. Igloo - added a few player but i don't think they will have a big impact, already a very solid team.

3. 91 - probably made the most changes, lost a lot of players and added some real talent. Only 22/21 players on the team maybe even less. Won't be surprised if they are the team to beat.

4. Outlaws - Lost 1 good player but added a bunch of good players - significant upgrade from last year.

5. Leeegeeeceee - added a bunch of players from 91 AA will be much improved.

Thoughts? Let's keep it factually and positive. Should be a fun year with this group.

What about Express B, 91 B and Igloo B? Any changes to those teams?

I think is all a zero sum gain. Every team added good players.

Outlawsbnoy evenbin the conversation, they didn't compete last year and only picked up one good player this year. Igloo, 9D1, express, legasee, igloo B, all way better than outlaws.

The top 6 teams in Long Island will stay top 6 with minimal changes. In Long Island, the top 6 teams are as follows:
AA (not in order)
- 9D1 AA
- Express AA
- Igloo AA

Outlaws Select somewhere between AA and A
- better than most A

A Team
- 9D1 B (2022A)
- Igloo B (probably also A team)
- Legacy AA

AA teams - are all great, any team can beat the other depending on weather, if a kid is missing, if coach decides to play his top talent and push the gas pedal, if coach wants to rotate more of their players, etc. This is a fact. Outlaws Select is right behind these teams and may be able to beat one of the AA teams if they get real lucky.

A Team
9D1 2022A soundly defeated all other teams, struggled against AA, lost to Outlaws Select while putting up a good game. Igloo A is also a solid team, should play 9D1 2022 for a good team. 9D1 and Igloo are the only teams that could hold any talent in their second teams. Outlaws, 9D1A and Igloo A will struggle because they can't compete with the top 3 AA teams, but are significantly better than other teams on Long Island. This year, Express is going to try a second team (and 3rd and 4th team), but other than their AA, too many teams and too much watering down of talent. Legacy showed up with a strong WSYL team, but that was different than their winter box top team.

If you are cracking on AA, you are just jealous.
If you are cracking on Outlaws - you are pretty sad because they are a great, solid team but are no where near AA.
If you are cracking on 9D1A and Igloo A - you just have not followed them throughout the season.

My son played 9D1A. Completely new team this year. Too few practices, we were promised more, but that is life. We are clearly second to the 9D1AA team. We could not complete at the AA level with one practice per week, no box program, only 1 head coach and 1 daddy coach at each game/tourney. Sometimes we only had 1 coach at scrimmages/tourneys. That was the most disappointing part of the year. We mostly destroyed teams from outside long island and other club teams on long island, so there was no competition there. It did not matter, our Coach kept us playing at the AA level and we got beaten up, but our kids learned and had positive attitudes.

We lost to Outlaws, close game but they clearly beat us. We had a very poor showing at WSYL because we took only our own kids, dropped the older kids and played by the rules. 9D1AA also took our highest scorer and he had the winning score for AA at WSYL. Also we did not have a box team, so we struggled in the beginning of Spring. Now the good - The parents were extremely nice, the kids were great to each other and overall had a great experience. My son learned a lot, got better and still wanted to play 9D1A. The 91 organization could have made it better and are trying to do so this coming year. Would like to see 9D1A play Igloo A and Outlaws more.

It is not about wins, losses, who is better, who is not. It is not about parents whining on these forums. I would rather hear more true stories like this so I understand what life is like on the other 2022 teams. If you notice, many other graduating years have supplemental tryouts because they don't have enough kids or talent. Our kids age group does not have supplemental tryouts because we have too many kids and too much talent at this age group. lets hear some real stories/experiences from parents on these top teams.

All the Long Island teams are good. It really boils down to:
- where/when the coach holds practices
- who the coach is
- what other kids are on the team with your son
- if your son is happy and wants to play for the team (vs if you want your son to play for the team)

Everyone else falls in just below those 7 (not 6) teams above. Empire A is still an A team, but clearly below those teams listed above. They are more like Hitmen A, TrueBlue A, Ducks A, etc. These are all great teams, definite separation from the top 3-4 above and the next 3.

More like Igloo B, Express Schwalje, 9!A

There needs to be more teams in the tweener group. This now called single A group needs to grow. Because 9! campbell lost 14-1 to Channy, but can't play in B

Single A (not ranking, just grouping)
Igloo, clearly the best
9! Campbell, I guess now 9! A
Express Schwalije
FIGee
Empire Green

Question as far as these rankings of the A's not AA

I am hearing that fl$ lost 3 of their top 4 players, Igloo lost their #1 goalie, Empire Green lost at least 5 and Campbell lost its #1 Goalie. With those things being said does it bring the A group closer to teams like the Ducks top team, True Blue and Hitmen?

All Fake News. Winky has brought in some good kids to replace the few that left. So did Igloo B. Neither lost their best four kids - sorry "leaving for a new team" dads.

The reality is that after the top five, you have Campbell, Igloo B, maybe Express Schwalje, maybe a few others who will all play in AA tournaments and will do well to hover around .500 for the year and their kids will all get better. And next year, you'll all be back here trashing every team on LI.

LegaCy was awful last year. Coach barely showed up. Didn't care. We were killed by express and igloo. Lost 3x to outlaws. Last one 7-1 in an embarrassment. After that the head coach tuned out. Stop lumping them with the top teams. And yes, my son has moved on. Never again.

91A last season was a terrible team and if they took back most of the kids from last season they will be the same garbage team. Coaching was bad. They will not be able to compete with any of the top teams much like Empire green.

Empire Green is on the low end of the A bracket. 9D1A is clearly in the upper end of A. Questionable Igloo B vs 9D1A. Both teams did not play each other and that was a shame. Parents wanted that game. 9D1A coach did not avoid playing Igloo B, but did not go out of way to play Igloo B. Outlaws Select is either bottom of AA or top of A. I could sit here and say 9D1A played Empire Green in Fall last year and soundly beat them, but one time beating a team does not meet they are better. I see parents on these posts saying this team won this one game back in 2016 so they are better. That is ridiculous. But your statement here clearly shows you are a bitter Empire Green player. Some really good talent from Empire Green left and went to 9D1 last season. The best player from Empire Green went to 9D1A last season, then moved to 9D1AA this coming year. Get over it. Kids move teams. Two years later.

Why call 9D1A terrible, then say Empire Green is better when they lost to 9D1 in 1 game, other than bitterness.

Empire is increasing their fee up by $928 for the boys and $550 for the girls. Last year, Empire had 16 boys’ teams from 3rd-Varsity. Multiply 16 X 20 players per team X $928 = $296,960
3 girls’ teams $550 X 60 players total = $33,000
For any non-math majors, that’s a $329,960 increase, not including the younger groups.

Enough with the fees, it's a business, you have choices. This is club lax and you shouldn't do it by what is convenient or cheap or who can carpool. Otherwise, stay with the local town club teams they are great options and a lot are as good as a B team at a club. At least it's close and you're playing with kids you know and potential coaches down the road. But if you want club, seek out the best team your son can make and travel to that location to practice. You mind fees and the extra travel to practice if it's worth it.

Empire will have no chance this year. Lost two incredible defensive players, and top scoring middie

You mind fees and the extra travel to practice if it's worth it.

Spoken from someone who's kid did not get any better writing checks to club teams. You do it so you can have the status of saying your kid plays for XYZ lacrosse. That make you a fool my friend !

Did the players leave because of the coach who was from another organization before Empire?

Or if your daddy IS the coach! The empire green ship has sunk and just desserts is served!

Are we talking about the 2022 team?

Yeah, just bend over and let them pull another $1000 out of you. No problem.

Valid points, but considering how much quality lax there is on LI and the number of clubs, you've hit upon opportunities for existing and new clubs - there are pockets of locales where if you offered a quality option, you could cater to a whole swath of players that are currently driving all over God's creation to play club. I get that field space is limited and hard to come by, but it would seem to me that this is a rare business where where the owners expect everyone to come to them as opposed to possibly looking at where their customers are and looking for options to bring that product closer to their customers.

Nope, I travel 40 minutes to practice. Because it's the best team he made with the best coaching. I was giving advice because often people choose convenience. I understand that it's hard to juggle travel and a full schedule. I am simply saying don't settle for a product the under delivers because it's close to home. And if you cant travel, stay with a town travel hybrid.
