College coaches want to deal with the student athlete, not a proud parent. Do yourself and your daughter a favor and keep in real......not every kid is built for for a top program. Many options out there if you search a school that's in your daughter's wheel house. It's a fun process. If it's not fun, you're doing it wrong.

I agree with all your points - very good advice. I would add for players to focus on schools that are a good all around fit. Schools they would like even without lacrosse in the picture.

Yes...you're right. Great point. Lacrosse in school should be fun. It's not life or death as some make it sound. Ask yourselves, if lacrosse doesn't work out, will she still want to be at this school?

Don't get so defensive Dad. The discussion is purely fact based. If you look at the top women's lax schools, then the players majors and then the overlay the top major of the school vs the athletes you will see the athletes are way under indexed to the top majors.

UNC Science, SB Heath Professions, FL Engineering, Maryland Science, Princeton Engineering, Duke Bio.

It appears that many athletes (not all) are taking less rigorous and time consuming majors so they could handle the team requirements. Some make this decision on their own and sometimes its suggested.

There are about 22-26 girls on the Syracuse roster who get ZERO MONEY, nobody ever talks about that. Sure its a top 10 program with a legendary coach but the point is that all the "commits" the clubs brags about doesn't always mean they are getting an athletic award

Legendary player who coaches, don't think he qualifies as a legendary coach yet.

And you care, why? People need to worry more about their own kids and less about everyone else's.

Just messaging like everyone else only backing it up with some realistic facts. I hope your kid is the lottery winner with a full ride to her dream school where she can take the major she wants, start as a Freshman, win a national championship and be a Tewarten winner. Maybe the facts are for the other 99.999999999 of players

If your not happy with the coaches or YJ program have your daughter try out somewhere else. YJ will be just fine without another malcontent like yourself.

You really are a simpleton, you equate the most popular major at a college as being the most rigorous. By your logic then the majority of the UNC players are in the top 2-3 most rigorous programs. Its actually a little creepy that you are so desperate to try and put these student athletes down that you pretend to have done research at 6 universities comparing the lacrosse majors to the student population overall.

All everyone needs to do is go back to the baldbear recaps of who starts playing in college and who actually finishes playing and then who finishes at the same school they started. Pick the right school for the right reason and odds are everything will work out. it goes by quick, enjoy!

There is nothing wrong with getting zero money at Syracuse. It's an in-state school with decent academics and all the swag the girls get makes up for it. Would Rutgers with 25% athletic be a better deal. NO. Playing time - hey, if that's what your girl wants. Nothing yah can do about it. I like the idea of at least getting her off the island and seeing something beyond the turnpike.

Syracuse is a private school, not a SUNY.

Huh? There is no in-state tuition for Syracuse, private university and it's now 65K year.

a .20% award at $63k Syracuse is still $50,500 per year! Yikes! $200k for an undergrad degree

Speaking of Rutgers I am surprised they are not more competitive. In state school like Stony Brook and Jersey seems to have more and more talent every year.

Rutgers is in the process of redeveloping their whole athletic facility to attract more players to attend Rutgers which will help bring in better players outside of NJ. Stony Brook does so well not only because they attract top LI players, but because of their coaching staff.

Illustrates the mindset of a typical Yj parent. Only worried about the swag, know nothing about the program (in this case the school, not knowing private from in state), and doesn't care about playing time, happy to see their kid sit the bench as long as they can have that swag and the sticker for the car. Suckers!

Did you ever play college lacrosse? Syracuse is a fully funded program so therefore they have 12.0 scholarships to award per team. With that being said, in a perfect world, big time programs such as Cuse give their top 8 players from each recruiting class a 25% athletic scholarship. However, the coaches can certainly allocate the scholarship money to their discretion so each recruiting class could certainly be different (i.e. 2 players receive a 50% scholarship, 3 get 33.33% and the rest allocated based on the coaches decision which could mean they can save 1 scholarship for the next recruiting class). But yes, there are certainly a handful of players who do not receive any athletic money, however, there are a lot of players who receive academic money as well.

Not going to find anything different at TG when it comes to coaching, but recruiting will certainly be a net minus for your daughter.

I don't think that some of the people posting non-sense on here and the TG thread have any idea how ridiculous they sound and then you try and deflect the criticism by calling somebody a name when your ignorance is pointed out. You're all rambling on about firing coaches and switching clubs (as if it makes any difference) and who the best team in the age group is and what kids need to be replaced. Somebody thinks that Syracuse is a state school?!
First if your kid can play she will get noticed no matter what club she plays for and going to college camps and clinics is by far the best course to take. No college coach gives a [lacrosse] who won National Draw in 6th grade or any other tournament for that matter.
If you think that YJ or TG cares about or will advocate for your kid beyond basic lip service you're sadly mistaken. They use the top players to sell their program and they smile and tell everybody how great they are as they take your money and sell you an unrealistic dream. If you're dream is a top 20 D1 school there are roughly 200 roster spots open and everyone in the country that has the same goal is competing for them - guess what the 50 kids on YJ Blue and TG Black are not all getting a spot on one of those rosters. If you go a step further break it down by positon the numbers continue to get smaller and so do your chances.
As far as firing coaches, I would bet that you can't name all of your kids teachers and certainly couldn't identify the weaker ones and have never spoken to your school about firing them. I really hope that you're not planning on lacrosse paying the bulk of your kids college costs, because again you will be sadly disappointed in the end. It's time for you all to wake up and do your homework before it's too late, you owe it to your kids

Thanks for another [lacrosse] post ,"rode the pines", I was clearly wrong my guess is you and the wife share a set of dentures and yesterday was her turn. The moronic thing about your post is you still think this is about hating people because their kid plays at a certain club , YJ in this case, it truly is the attitude of the ignorant.

If you happen to be a family that has financial "need" or you qualify for academic money......you know there are ways of getting around having to give a student an athletic scholarship, then you can save it and award it to someone else. Happens all the time in most college sports. Happened with my son in a different sport.

Or....if your daughter is very smart and you make under 200k (I will be way under that when retired, which coincides with her starting college) My daughter will get about 70% paid at an Ivy. That is the reason to play lacrosse in the first place...use it to get into a school you may not have been able to get into otherwise, those are the true winners.

Those were and are facts of the amount of athletic scholarship money for a fully funded Division 1 Women's Lacrosse program and Syracuse is one of those schools as every Division 1 school is not fully funded. Being a former D1 player and who works closely with the college coaches, this is precisely how it works.

No one is arguing that fully funded women's lacrosse programs do not have 12 scholorships to award per year . My problem is that the coaches never give out 8 equal scholorships (.25) per year and have never met a coach who even attempts to do that.

With that being said, in a perfect world, big time programs such as Cuse give their top 8 players from each recruiting class a 25% athletic scholarship. However, the coaches can certainly allocate the scholarship money to their discretion so each recruiting class could certainly be different (i.e. 2 players receive a 50% scholarship, 3 get 33.33% and the rest allocated based on the
coaches decision which could mean they can save 1 scholarship for the next recruiting class). But yes, there are certainly a handful of players who do not receive any athletic money, however, there are
a lot of players who receive academic money as well.

How do you know this?

He does not know this .In a perfect world is just a nonsense statement , after that it's just more nonsense .

You are exactly right and I think that is what the person was eluding to when writing 'in a perfect world.' I personally know some players who received just books when others received full tuition, 10%, 20%, etc., so in your defense, I 100% agree with you and I also don't know of any program who gives out equal scholarships.

That would be really nice - it would be all fair and even for everyone on the roster. Everyone would be even-steven if you gave every girl 33% that means all 36 on the roster can be even. Wouldn't that be nice? All fair and square. Then on senior day - girls can get a participation medal.

No one was advocating that.

Really...a true winner....Ivy's.....hope you are aware of the various nonsense at those schools which include but not limited to the following: Harvard-Sex week, Brown-naked week, UPenn-Playboys Top party school etc. Left wing nut job professors spewing liberal drivel.

Cuse is not a state school!!! To commit to that school and get no money means they consider you a practice player and will not even make it to the bench! That girl will have a seat in the stands for 4 years!

No different that little sally's A team experience with YJ only playing in the big blow out games. But mom and dad can put that orange "S" right next to the YJ sticker.
