New [lacrosse] Lizards Add Eight from Draft
With the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft in the books, the Lizards added eight new members to their squad. The Lizards walked away with some of the most notable trades of the night Friday in philadelphia, picking up David Earl and Steven Waldeck from the Hamilton Nationals, as well as Mark Matthews from the Denver Outlaws. Earl and Waldeck were picked up in exchange for the Lizard’s fifth overall pick of the night. Last season with the Nationals, Earl tallied 27 points (18 goals, one 2-point goal, and 8 assists) and 15 ground balls in 11 games. The 2011 Notre Dame graduate was picked up by Hamilton in the third round of the 2011 Collegiate Draft. Steven Waldeck picked up 39 and 36 ground balls in the last two seasons with the Nationals, respectively. At Stony Brook University, Waldeck picked up 313 ground balls, 112 in in senior season, the third most in school history. The Lizards second pick was scheduled to come in the fourth round at 29th overall, but the Lizards traded the Denver Outlaws the 29th pick and attackman Will Mangan in exchange for attackman Mark Matthews. In his first season in the League, Matthews played in nine games for the Outlaws, scoring 28 points with 19 goals and 9 assists. With their first pick of the draft, at 37th overall in the fifth round, the Lizards selected Syracuse midfielder, JoJo Marasco. A coveted “22” at Syracuse, JoJo started all 17 games of both his sophomore and junior seasons, and led the Orange midfield with 31 points in 2012 (12 goals, 19 assists). In the sixth round, the Lizards selected Hofstra face-off specialist, John Antoniades. Antoniades ranked fifth in the nation in face-off in 2011 with a .642 win percentage. The Lizards selected Notre Dame midfielder, Steve Murphy at 53rd overall. In his three years with the Irish so far, Murphy has tallied 20 points on 15 goals and five assists in the 31 games he’s played in. With the 56th pick, a trade from Chesapeake, the Lizards selected Hofstra defenseman, Mark Mullen. As a sophomore in 2011, Mullen played in all 16 games and tallied seven caused turnovers, including two against Johns Hopkins and Colgate. The Lizards selected Jeff Tundo, a Stony Brook Midfield, with their final pick. The Ohio State transfer started in all 17 games as a junior in 2012. With 17 goals and 28 assists, Tundo lead the team in assists and was second on the team in points.

[lacrosse] Vermeil Delivers US Lacrosse Convention Keynote
[lacrosse] Vermeil built one of the most successful NFL coaching careers ever by developing relationships with his players that focused more on who they were as people. That made him a natural selection to deliver the keynote address at the US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Champion, Friday night, given the lacrosse community's affinity for highlighting the long-lasting relationships that come with participation in the sport.
Vermeil shared his principles of leadership honed over a 50-year career that now includes his position as an executive in the wine industry, leading a team that bottles and sells Vermeil Wines, a long-time family tradition now enjoyed by the public. "I always told people I don't coach football, I coach people who play football," he said. "You don't coach lacrosse, you coach people who play lacrosse."
