The vast amount of studies have nothing to do with affluent lacrosse kids. But hey whatever fits your model, go with it.

Rick kids are part of the studies too. Do you think it is bad advice to ask medical and school professionals to do an assessment and give an opinion before a kid is held back? The truth is no professional would advise to hold back for sports.

STX Rising is a joke. Total money grab now. Mediocre players pay $600 for chance to advance to play with more mediocre players.

So you read the study? It discussed affluent suburban kids? You really read the study? Maybe not the same one I read, because nowhere did they discuss affluent suburban children. They discussed inner city kids in NYC, Detroit and a couple of other real lax hot beds.

FYI, it has always been a joke just like all of these events. They are all money grabs that are "sold" to parents and kids as "you have to do this or you won't get recruited" events. Save your money. If your kid is good, they will find a place to play in college, if they aren't then it doesn't matter how much money you spend, he still won't play.

Lets cut to the chase - if you are reclassing your kid so he can be better at lacrosse your priorities are way off...

I don't entirely disagree, but if holding back your kid equals admission to a great school, one that may have been out of reach if left on grade, is it worth it? Not something happening in my house, but if you look at many of the rosters of most ACC/Ivy/Big 10 schools there are a WHOLE lot of kids who did just that. The main argument people on this site have with hold backs is it cheats a kid (theirs) out of a valuable starting roster spot. So let's not all sit on here acting like we're making the argument for the good of the game or some other high calling, it's all about what is best for ours.

Did read countless studies in connection with work. Rich kids are no different than anyone else. If you are looking for studies to support this is wrong you may find one or two but there are hundreds that support these theories over the last 30 years. Simple solution is don't hold a kid back until you make an informed decision and speak with the proper professionals.

These kids will get in better schools but with a useless major at an unknown cost as described it the post regarding the negatives of holding back.

I've got news for you, a worthless major at an IVY is better for employment then a so called career major at an average school. Wall Street is filled with salesman that are Ivy League athletes that took the easy way through.

totally not true, just because you have a degree from an Ivy league school does not mean you will be successful. You still need to have your act together.

I am not sure if a history major from Yale is better off compared to a Business major from a lesser school. It all depends what you want to do after college but to say that a weaker major from an Ivy is getting a kid to wall street is reckless. Most history majors if hired are not doing well on wall street.

Yes. Many could not get jobs. So they take a job anyone can get and fail on Wall Street.

I hadn't realized that the only way to make a living after college is to make sure you play lacrosse at an Ivy league school?!?! Kids and parents, the programs and alumni networks at the ACC/Big Ten/Big East/Patriot/NESCAC/etc. leagues are worthless for getting good jobs on Wall Street (clearly the only goal to have). No one from ND, Duke, Hopkins, PSU, OSU, Vermont, Villanova, Georgetown, Fairfield, Bucknell, Colgate, etc. ever succeeded or had success with their alumni networks or in life, period. So, hang up your sticks and dreams of playing big time lax. It's all over. Why are you guys giving away this knowledge for free on BOTC???

So being a salesman on Wall St is considered successful. Please.....Give us a break. Have more respect for nursing etc than the self absorbed jack@sses down on The Street.

Guess you were not there. As usual those not involved with something have to trash it. To the original posters question, it was a good event. Well run, great drills and a great 2 1/2 days for the kids who wanted to get the most out of it. Games were competitive but there was a lot of showboating which to the organizers credit, they corrected as much as possible. The talent ranged from elite level players to kids who probably were a bit over their head which happens at most events. This was one of the two "tryout" events for the STX 3D Rising event to be held this summer. Not the event to go to if you want sidelines of coaches and it is not geared toward that - the coaches will be at the main event after the kids are filtered a bit more during the training and drills at the feeder events. All in all a good experience for our son. And before Mr Negativity jumps in, my son plays at a high level and although not committed yet, has had significant # of phone conversations, unofficial visit invites and interest from top D1 schools based on his summer and fall playing. He wanted to attend for the training and the opportunity to play at the main event. If your son does not need constant stroking as to playing only with the best and wants to continue to learn new skills during thr off season, then go for it. It was not wasted money or time.

My son is on a very good travel team. Multiple teammates of his have made commitments. I have noticed a pretty big drop in team practices after fall ball. Have any others on the board seen a decrease in practice this winter compared to last in this age group?

Attended last year. Decided not to go this year. A good event promoted as something more than it is. Same as any overnight training camp. The kids that attend are not necessarily the best of the NLF clubs and spots are filled with kids from some of the club's lower teams. It was also not sold out this year which says a lot. Still good training in sunny Florida so just like STX Rising, if a kids wants more practice in off season, wants to experience something a bit different at a beautiful facility and has the money, go for it.

There will be college coaches at the UA tryout.

Yes. High School now, and Winter Sports occupy lots of weekends.

Old news, while the other current and other 2 former Crush F/O have all committed to top schools. Why?

Apparently UA will also be much better this year. Perhaps they now understand that handing the selection keys to local club and HS coaches tarnishes their credibility and drives away top talent that knows they can't beat politics. Kudos to UA if this actually happens.

No they still have 9t1 and Express running Long Island. Guess who will be chosen???

Exactly, college coaches will be there during the tryout games to recruit players. The final team will be picked 3 weeks prior at a Diner somewhere on LI. Think Brin&. With that said, if you're son is looking to get recruited it is by far the best event to be seen at for the money, and no travel.

Under Armour is clearly the more prestigious of the two. However - unless it can escape the politics that picked last years team it ain't worth the $$$.

If your concerned about making the team and you don't play for one of the clubs doing the evaluations don't bother. But if your son wants to play in front of a good amount of coaches fo recruiting purposes at a reasonable reg. Fee and you don't have to leave the island, then it's more than worth it. The college coaches show up for the try out days because they know the fix is in. They understand that the best players don't necessarily make the team or even the final 88 or whatever the number they're using is now.

Don't call 90+1 they won't look at your son, but... call Channy. He'll take your money and put your son on the club. Don't know if he already knows who he is choosing before tryouts.
