Not this year. Hoco championship has to be one of the hardest titles to win.

No summer guest players. No summer crappy fields, No summer questionable refs. Hoco is the real season for middle school and older elementary school kids.

You are seeing the effect of Madlax 2020's absence - this 2020 elite division is wide open now.

Crabs has more than 10 holdbacks, plus don't forget the 2 double holdbacks. Their 2020 team is a 2019 team. Need to get your facts straight.

Only if they manage to follow their own rules which they have not yet. No kids that do not follow "normal progression" for the grade.

Because their fogo can't play with them as he is playing down in Florida.

Deny it all you want, there are way too many people that know the makeup of Crabs 2020 team, it is a disgrace to lacrosse but it is typical of what Ryan does with the Crab teams. Holdbacks all over the place.

When it comes to the Greater Howard Club Lacrosse Conference, that is simply a cesspool of a league. Their own rules/guidelines are not followed. Many believe it is because Crabs has a tight relationship with someone on the Howard County payroll who does this to benefit Ryan McClernan and his corrupt organization.

As bad as you feel it is, the facilities, staffing, and rule enforcement is way better than you will find in any summer tournament

Would not agree with this-it is warm up and of course the c-ships will be hard to win as the lead teams are filled with kids much older - cant toot your own horn when not an even playing field. It will be the battle of who has more holdbacks that is all. Everyone had high hopes for this league but it is plagued by the same issues as tournaments but even sadder because a govt should not be adjusting their rules, doing handshake deals etc Hoco had rules in place to prevent the crazy hold back situation and they choose to ignore them. I would rather have my kids play summer on age guest players than a loaded roster of older kids. Refs certainly are questionable - there are good and bad refs everywhere. The fields would have to agree are great but what is the point of having great fields when the rest is ignored?

Rule enforcement???? Not happening at all with respect to the ages of the kids allowed to play! Refing is spotty - good mixed with bad. Facilities are great but facilities do not make a league. A chance has been missed for a great opportunity to shape youth lacrosse in Maryland due to lack of knowledge, caring of what is happening and handshake deals.

Complain all you want. You can't name a summer tournament that does not guarantee the team you are playing against is not together for more than two days. Again the refs at summer tournaments are any 50 refs the tournament can get their hands on and expect them to work 10 hours straight. The fields are crap at most summer tournaments. You are lucky if they are mowed and if they are level. Be thankful for what you have.

No Crab dad, referring to a lot of people that are aware of Crabs leader and his in tight relationship with HOCO and the relationship is not favorable to other teams, just lets Crabs slide past the rules/guidelines.

My parents aren't around any longer, so di*k head, why don't you watch how you respond to people.
Now, you better go down the street and get your wife out of the drug house. I guess she has had enough for today. (see how it feels)
Crab parents/fans are the low life of lacrosse, you just keep proving it. Hate it when you are called out.

Who cares if a team is put together just for a tournament? . It happens all the time and as long as they are all the correct age, good for them. Why would it be a problem? The fields are secondary and notna huge issue. the important thing is safety and teaching kids sportsmanship and good character while offering fair competition. That is what is important - you either work for Howard county or don't have a child playing in this environment or you would understand what is really important - the kids. Refs in hoco league are not as great as you think. Adequate but not all great. Would be thankful if you had your league follow their own rules.

He won't be able to play most summer tournaments because most leagues and tournaments have rules that a player that has played any high school lacrosse can not play youth any more. The Crabs bigger, faster and older have this "win" with loads of asterisks.

That rule is NEVER enforced, and most clubs simply blow it off. It's a pretty dumb rule, really. Why penalize a kid for being good enough to play on a HS freshman or JV team? This isn't rec league. We should have the best players at the age or grade level playing, period. Who cares if they have played for a high school?

I think Looney's Orange is playing in recruiting events this summer. Probably not a rule for those events since they are essentially high school tournaments

It is a rule for leagues and tournaments making any player who played for high school ineligible to play and starts the clock with the MIAA and Maryland schools regarding # of years they can play in high school. Your thinking is the problem with YOUTH lacrosse today - people doing what ever they want because they do not agree with it. He played for his high school, he can not play youth leagues or tournaments any longer or he puts his team at risk for forfeiture. No grey area on this one and no wiggle room for you trying to work around it. If Looneys and he really wanted to get around it, he should not be posting HUDL videos of playing in high school. Life is about deciding which you would rather do sometimes and he picked playing in his local high school making him ineligible. Showcases he will be fine with probably but not leagues or tourneys.

Actually the situation rarely comes up in Maryland as Maryland schools do not allow 8th graders to play on their high school team nor can they play for more than 4 years in any one sport in all their high schools combined. Many Maryland 8th grade players capable of playing for their high schools have not due to this rule. For Maryland you must be a full time student attending the school and eligible grade you are playing for so 8th graders can not do it. Your allegation that it is never enforced is self serving because it is not something that comes up in Maryland. Back to the original question though, he can not play this weekend or any weekend in the Hoco league as their rules are very clear on the point. If Looneys is playing Beach Lax or any Aloha or Hogan event, he is also unable to join the team. Curious to see if Crabfeast allows it or not.

As an aside, given the number of kids that could play for their high schools and do not because they follow the rule it is even more of a reason he should not be allowed. Talk to the folks who make the rules if you want them changed for future years and you believe you have the wisdom on why they should rewrite them but until then many others have given up the opportunity to play for their high schools because they follow the rule. Teach these kids (or their parents) that they are not above the rules.

Does this also mean that the 91 Crush kid who committed to PSU is not allowed to play in any of these tournaments as he has been playing for his local high school on LI.

As Aloha and other tourney rules are written, he can not play Beach Lax or those type of youth tourneys - it does not matter where they played high school lacrosse but if they play it at all, they are no longer eligible for youth tourneys. NY does not have the school restrictions Maryland does but Crush would still need to check the rules of the tournaments they entered and he and any other can not play in the youth tournament. This should not be a surprise to any one - it is common knowledge.

I would doubt Looney's had any control on what he does at his school in Florida. I would assume that decision was made by the player and his parents and perhaps the HS coach, good old Tony Seaman. (of JHU and Towson Univ. fame)

This is a situation that can be remedied with US Lacrosse new age rules. Eligibility by date, classification by ability.

Play with words. This is the wording from the HOCO player eligibility guidelines:
"The Conference follows a grade based system based on the player’s current grade level and assuming normal progression of school to graduation. Players who are participating in any high-school level program such as a high school freshman, JV-B, junior varsity, varsity or club team should not be eligible for 8th grade/U15 competition in the same season".

Notice it says "players who are participating in any high school etc. "should" not be eligible for 8th grade competition.
Wouldn't it have been better/stronger to use the word "is not" rather than "should not". Given how HOCO does not follow its own rules/guidelines regarding normal progression of school to graduation, does this leave an opening/arguing point for a player who did play for their high school team/? Don't know.

There are quite a lot of kids who play hs as 8th graders fyi. Happens regularly outside of md. The 3 top long Island teams have a lot of players playing hs currently.

Why does "91" come up as asterisks?

Regardless the decision was made and the Looneys coach must know about the kid playing on the hs team or there is a bigger issue in that he does not know what a player on his roster is doing. Ultimately, the player and parents would decide but you have a knowledgeable high school coach and presumably a knowledgeable Looneys coach who would have communicated the rule to let them make the decision that was right for the boy. Maybe his new high school in MD is okay with him only playing through his junior year to remain eligible or he will red shirt freshman year.

How common are club scholarships? I know great goalies and fogos can change the whole outlook of a team, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised clubs are giving discounts to these kids, but it still caught me off guard when I found out about them.z3
