Now a Penn State education and degree are a waste of time ....lol this has gotten ridiculous all of the Jelousy has tainted all rational thinking.

The girl who cuts my hair has a cousin who lives down the street from a guy who works at Penn St. and he said that they have committed to improving their lacrosse team, so this all makes sense now.

Whoever is serving as the Tambroni/Team91 Crush press agent here has to realize a few facts.
1-Penn State is in the same position as every fully funded lacrosse program (somewhere around 30) in that they have 12.6 scholarships. No more.
2-Kids de-commit all the time.
3-Coaches change. Tambroni has been at PSU for 6 years. He lasted 10 at Cornell. Who knows how much longer he will be there.
In the end, who really cares? Wish the kid luck and move on...

The poster is bashing great schools out of jealousy. Any kid getting a scholarship to a top 50 school has much to be proud of. For that matter, any school. Saying that if you don't go to an Ivy or a ND you are wasting your time has got to be the most ignorant comment yet. There are many factors that go into a college choice. Even as an eighth grader, you and your kid have an idea of their strengths and weaknesses. A Penn State, Maryland, Ohio State are all great choices for an early commit who has decent grades, but maybe not high honors material. Some kids love the big sports school atmosphere, and don't want to be too far from home as well. They have the best chance to find a major that suits them and not be overwhelmed with academics that are tough to handle given the D1 practice requirements. If schools like PSU are a waste, I'd hate to hear what the poster says about the boys going to Stonybrook, Hoftstra, Delaware, UMass, Denver, those kids are doomed for failure! Total garbage, poster should be ashamed of himself!

Penn St. isn't a waste - a scholarship is a scholarship. That being said, nobody with any shred of intelligence will say Penn St. is a better academic school then the likes of many Ivy's and Duke, Hopkins, Notre Dame, etc. If they do, they are a complete homer.

I don't know this kid, there could be a myriad of reasons why he chose Penn St. Maybe it's been his dream school, maybe he wants big time football, maybe his AI won't be high enough to get into the more academically rigorous schools. We won't know and honestly its the family's business, not ours.

The insinuation from the original poster was that this VERBAL commitment was something more; as if it some mythical extra special verbal vs. all the other verbals top kids give. It isn't. Either party can walk away before NLI signing. Period. End of story.

I went to a very average school. A D2 lax school, and I didn't play Lacrosse. At 52 I run very successful business. I hear the Ivy educated Dr. next door leave for work at 5am. I get up a little later, take my son to school, come back do some work and then hit the gym. Not sure if an unbelievable quality life and financial stability trump an Ivy education? But I wouldn't trade my life for the Doctor's next door I can tell you that. By the way, my wife is home with our children while Doctor's wife goes to work everyday, she's an Ivy Educated Dentist. The nanny raises their kids. Lastly, my college roommate, he lives in a $7million home in Connecticut. Point is, so little is dependent upon where you go to school. If you think only people who go to the Ivies are financially successful, you're absolutely insane.

We need to look at a bigger sample size then just you and your buddy. I'm thinking your statement about so little depends on what school you go to is a little off. why wouldn't everybody go to an average school and have fun and own a 7 million dollar home vs going to an ivy and killing themselves only to be a doctor and have to get up early.

My brother went to Cornell, I went to Adelphi. I make twice his salary, and live very comfortably. Hek, I can even afford travel lax for 3 kids!

The thing that's freaking everybody out is the fact that this is the best player in the country in his class and as such, he has all the leverage - a position we all wish we were in. We also know he doesn't have an academic track record yet - either good or bad. So, with that in mind, why not shoot for the moon academically? You know any of the top IVY's would love to have a talent like this. It would be one thing if he had a mediocre high school transcript full of B's and C's. If that were the case then PSU would be a great academic outcome. But, since he has no idea what his high school academic potential will be, why not go for the best possible academic outcome until proven that he can't get in? Otherwise, it just appears to everybody that he's settling before even giving himself a chance to leverage his God given athletic gifts at an IVY or similar caliber school.

Great points. I think any school can be a good school if you take advantage of what the school has to offer and make the most of your opportunities. I think in todays climate it is more about where you go to grad school anyway. Every kid is different and each kid must choose the right fit for him academically, athletically and socially. Penn State is a great school with a great tradition and there are thousands of kids each year that would kill to get accepted. Good for this kid if he ends up there, but he does have a long way to go.

All the time you mutts spend worrying about this kid instead of your own is insane. Kid is going to Penn State for free in all likelihood. What if he didn't want Ivy Be happy it's one kid off the board and closer to,your son.

I would just say that the pleas about respecting choice and privacy, "why do you care?" etc. are pretty silly when you consider how this news was blasted out on Twitter and everywhere else. The family could have kept it under wraps as many early commits choose to do. They made a different choice which is their right. But when you take a public victory lap people are going to criticize and take shots....If you dont want the scrutiny keep it to yourself. All that said, the kid is a force and if anyone deserves to commit this early it is him. Best of luck to him!

Penn State does not take kids with BS and Cs. They don't have too. Unless of course you are an athelte. In 8th grade, you do know if you are a high academic achiever because the better 8th graders are taking Regents exams in math and science. If they are not running averages by this time in the year in the high to mid nineties, they are not likely Ivy, Duke or ND material. As for Penn State, you should be in the A- range. After all, it is a top 50 school, and is still quite competitive to get into.

But when you take a public victory lap people are going to criticize and take shots....If you dont want the scrutiny keep it to yourself. All that said, the kid is a force and if anyone deserves to commit this early it is him. Best of luck to him!

I heard that he puts Jim Brown to shame. He is being considered a combination of MJ and Lebron and a little Kobe as well as far as talent goes. God bless his athletic ability and the people of Penn Stae to be so lucky and fortunate to have a once in a lifetime kid grace them with his presence. I'm so jealous I couldn't be him. I hope everyone in the world know about his accomplishments so far

They also are ranked higher than many of the other top 20 lax schools like Ohio State, Maryland, Loyola, Hoftstra,SB, Denver, Syracuse, UMass, Delaware, Towson. Not that there is anything wrong with those schools, I believe all of them have much to offer.
Not sure what your problem is? I would be thrilled if my son was offered a scholarship to any of them. There is a good fit for everyone. And there is always going to be someone with a negative comment, sad!

Lots of discussion about why he should be looking at a better academic institution. Here's what puzzles me: why not go to a better LACROSSE program? I think Penn State is an outstanding university in many regards. But they aren't an outstanding lacrosse program. I'm just surprised he didn't select a program that is likely, based on recent performance and current trending, to play for a national championship.

Maybe the parents know what's best for their child. The school could be a perfect academic fit for him. Now one knows the real deal or what the kids getting other than the school and parents. All this speculation on here is just BS.

Umm because look at the parity for this year and I believe it will only get better. Speaks volumes for a kid who wants to make his own mark.

Those two programs are struggling, VA coach won't be around much longer.

Easy there! It was a scrimmage, not the same as a game. First one today, so we can start citing stats then.

Actually today is a scrimmage as well. First game is 3/29 vs a weak NB.

Was at Bay Shore West Islip scrimmage today (West Islip parent)the kid is for real, I've watched him play over the years at different events town and travel and he only gets better, unfortunately for now only glaring bright spot on a weak Bay Shore team, the kid had 3 or 4 goals and a few assists, size and speed of a hs senior
