My daughter recently switched travel teams ( 6th grade) new team is average to slightly above average
They played last summer in Hershey park tourny in 5/6 grade division and were very disappointed to say the least my daughters old team was there aswell and shared the same lack luster experience
Most of there tournaments are on Long Island with one maybe two overnight
Can anyone share a good tournament within driving distance for this level

Kind of a tough question. In all honesty, very few, if any, of the good tournaments are on LI.

Isnt that something your club director should be figuring out? Might be time to re-evaluate especially if you are looking for more competitive play.? The other issue is some of the larger well known tournys book very quickly so you may find yourself shut out.
Why don't you look at some of the larger established clubs as they typically will say what tournys they will be attending.
I would also agree with the previous poster that you will not find competitive play at the LI tournys.

This was debated to death a few months ago. As long as LI keeps going to MD, there is no need for MD to travel. Would you if the opposite was true?

Only 6 teams in that bracket last year, from just 4 different clubs (2 on LI) - not surprised you were disappointed. That tournament seems to be dying a slow death on the girls side over the past couple years.

you would be cutting in directors paycheck if teams stayed on the island....wouldn't look right to have to pay for a coach or directors hotel room...and besides, the cache that comes with saying your travel lax teams goes away to all these tournaments is a big selling point for directors!

For the past two years a Hero's 2019 team has come up to LI in July for a tournament. They have won their division both years. Last year they rolled over everybody in their division - maybe it might be better for the LI girls if the MD teams don't come up to LI. Hero's is not even the best program in MD and their games were not even close last summer.

All the good LI teams were probably in MD that weekend.
