I agree. It's 7th graders (12 yrs old) too!


Younger girls playing up means they share the field with the older girls, it doesn't mean they magically turn into upper classmen. The coach should control the environment at games/practice, on the bus and in the locker room, parents should control social activities outside of lacrosse. In a properly controlled program there should be no issues with younger girls playing up. If there are issues it falls on the coaches and the parents failure to monitor and control the situation.


Obviously every situation is different. This will depend hugely on the kid. Some kids will always do the right thing in nearly all situations. If your kid is physically up to the task and you feel comfortable with them playing up, that's awesome, do it. Obviously some people don't feel comfortable with it, don't do it. I'm sure not all the cases of girls playing up are ideal, but don't try to generalize and say no girls should play up, many of them end up being the best players on the team, with none of the negative stuff people are worried about ever happening.
