Horizontal stick position while defending is the direct result of all knowing lacrosse dads who teach their girls to play defense like a boy. Obviously you have never seen the welts and black and blues on a girls arm from receiving cross checks. Not overly attractive. Defense can be played, and played effectively with the stick vertically, feet movement, and well timed slides.
