It appears that teams get older, try outs are really for a kid trying to break on to the scene of a certain team or organization. If coaches know kids on the their team, or kids in their organization and have watched them play throughout the season, a try out is really just a formality. Sure, every now and then there are some upsets and surprises, but for the most part, if an coaches or organization are happy with their kids, someone has to really wow them to knock an existing player out of a spot. Kids get sick, are hurt and organizations will be flexible if they know their players. If the kid makes a coveted team from another organization, and did not show for try outs, you can bet, the coach had a private try out or watched him/her over the last season and liked what they saw. in some ways- this is better than a 2 day try out, but not always fair. This happens in all select sports.
