When going through upcoming tryouts, roster size should be your #1 question, on any given team.
18 is perfect and anything beyond 20 is a money grab. Reasonable game playing time beyond 18 is near impossible. If a club far exceeds 20, run!!!!!!
I will NOT commit to a team that will carry anymore than 22 players. To no fault of the kids and parents and sometimes coaches, these teams will be plagued with an extremely toxic environment.
Ideal team size for games 18: 4 Defense 6 Middies 4 Attack 1 LSM 1 FOGO 2 Goalies
Ideal team size for practices 20: 5 Defense 6 Middies 1 LSM 1 FOGO 5 Attack 2 Goalies
Directors should be upfront on roster size. If they don’t offer this, you should ask the question before you commit. RUN if roster spots exceed 22 or you don’t get a clear answer. Advocate for your son by asking the question and keeping the clubs accountable.
