First off, anyone serious about switching clubs (at least for an A team level) has already worked in with them during the summer. Tryouts are really focused on being a cash grab and rounding out B teams.

Also, compared to other regions, MD team tend to lock their rosters later than others. Many top NY/NJ/PA teams have their last "open" tryout for incoming 8th graders. Wouldn't mind if MD did the same -- probably works out best for all involved and significantly reduces club jumping. Would also incent good players to get on better teams earlier.

In the current situation, if I was a top club, here is what I would do -- Make offers to all of your players who want back next year. Tell them if they committ now, they don't have to tryout and require a decent sized deposit before tryouts. If they don't accept, they can tryout, but no guarantees.
