Based on my experience with M&D players, they cannot miss any games, fall spring or summer for conflicts.
We had several M&D players miss our field hockey playoff game based on that justification.
I do agree the gap narrows each season. These playoff games are shorter and that’s where a team could take advantage as well.
Maybe playing for M&D (or a Hero's) is their first choice. Not field hockey or basketball or soccer. They play for these types of teams because they are the best lacrosse players. When you get to that level, maybe they fear losing their spot as well if they miss a game or tournament.
Either way, I am sure playing at the highest level can be a bit stressful in terms of choosing what to play when conflicts arise.
