Multiple Big Ten women’s lacrosse coaches have informed prospective non-conference regular season opponents that their games will not be played in 2021, ILWomen has learned.

The news develops as preparation for spring seasons comes into narrower focus with the end of fall seasons and the first semester at many institutions, the beginning of winter sports and the IWLCA Convention, which is being conducted virtually and is hosting conversations conference and division meetings, where policies and protocols are being discussed.

An inquiry to the Big Ten office was not immediately returned.

Sources tell ILWomen that the communication from the Big Ten women’s coaches comes as one of the first, most definitive pieces of spring scheduling news. Last week, the Atlantic Sun released its conference schedule.

When reached for comment, a Big Ten men’s lacrosse coach said that no directive like playing a conference-only schedule had been communicated to the men’s coaches. On Wednesday, D1Baseball reporter Kendall Rogers tweeted that Big Ten baseball teams, which had been planning to play conference-only schedules, are targeting the first weekend in March to begin their season.
