It may not be a good "investment" (although I don't think it is even for kids who want to play in college). But there are plenty of good reasons to play club other than for recruiting. That's especially true for a club that is relatively low cost and intends to be a low stress fun experience.


Name a club that is low cost at the High School level? Go to public school and play for your High School team...... If you do not intend to play College Lacrosse then it's just a complete waste of time....

If you feel playing more lacrosse is a complete waste of time then any amount is too much. Many teams charge under 2K a year. As you state, "if you do not intend to play College Lacrosse" speaking in the first person, I assume you are a player not a parent, if you do not like the sport, then "yes" it is a complete waste of time and money to continue. Many kids enjoy the sport and it will end at some point. For many, spending 2K a year to play more competitive lacrosse at the High School level to get better and maybe start on Varsity is low cost. The same would apply to any activity.
