New [lacrosse] actually is 3.3 times the size of Maryland by population.
Looking at the two best teams in the country. Maryland Terps are 28% Maryland kids and 20% New [lacrosse] kids Ohio State is 16% Maryland kids and 13% New [lacrosse] kids
Maryland had 4 teams in the NCAA tourney New [lacrosse] had 2 teams in the NCAA tourney

[/quote] Population statistics for NY are overwhelmingly high due to NYC - with that five boroughs of NYC, lax a sport is either unavailable or sparingly played. If you want to do a more appropriate population analysis, take the populations of all other NYS counties - IE, exclude the boroughs of NY, ~40% of NYS' popu;ation - and then let us know what that says.
