You are correct that for all of its own ills in the soccer world, the structure and planning brought to league (as opposed to tournament) play by [lacrosse] does in fact hold down costs in soccer as opposed to lacrosse.

That said, such control comes at the loss of flexibility in scheduling and, perhaps, a league too large for its own good has resulted.

US Lacrosse does not maintain the same structure down the youth ranks that one sees in the USYSA/USSF soccer worlds which makes it somewhat unique in terms of youth sports.

While you might think that [lacrosse] is a not-for-profit organization, our sister site, Back of THE NET, provides more than ample coverage of the bank accounts reportedly under the control of this not-for-profit.
