I am new to making no sense at alll so pardon me if I make sense...isn't the score the best indication of how close a game was?
It depends. A lot of teams let kids play that may not be completely ready for big games to get them exposure. When the score tightens they put the top players back in. It solves two problems. Parents who want to win and parents who want their kids to play.
