This is one of those comments made out of total ignorance. Generally speaking, holding back for athletic reasons can only happen at private schools and not public, and the last time I checked there were maybe 2 or 3 prep schools playing lax on all of LI. I could name 4 just in a 10 mile radius outside of Baltimore. And actually holdbacks are more prevalent in Ct. and Westchester County than LI. So as much as I hate to say it Long Island teams probably have the fewest amount of repeat kids than most lacrosse regions.
When going to age based tournaments there are always going to be teams like Legacy bringing as many kids as possible who are close to the age cut-off. It is what it is. Baseball's Little League World Series (12U) ,( which I think WSYL is trying to emulate, but I wish somehow it could also be town based) is also prone to certain teams always playing the age cut-off game.
