That rule is NEVER enforced, and most clubs simply blow it off. It's a pretty dumb rule, really. Why penalize a kid for being good enough to play on a HS freshman or JV team? This isn't rec league. We should have the best players at the age or grade level playing, period. Who cares if they have played for a high school?

It is a rule for leagues and tournaments making any player who played for high school ineligible to play and starts the clock with the MIAA and Maryland schools regarding # of years they can play in high school. Your thinking is the problem with YOUTH lacrosse today - people doing what ever they want because they do not agree with it. He played for his high school, he can not play youth leagues or tournaments any longer or he puts his team at risk for forfeiture. No grey area on this one and no wiggle room for you trying to work around it. If Looneys and he really wanted to get around it, he should not be posting HUDL videos of playing in high school. Life is about deciding which you would rather do sometimes and he picked playing in his local high school making him ineligible. Showcases he will be fine with probably but not leagues or tourneys.

As an aside, given the number of kids that could play for their high schools and do not because they follow the rule it is even more of a reason he should not be allowed. Talk to the folks who make the rules if you want them changed for future years and you believe you have the wisdom on why they should rewrite them but until then many others have given up the opportunity to play for their high schools because they follow the rule. Teach these kids (or their parents) that they are not above the rules.
