True statement!

A lot of the teams do not have reclassified kids. Reclassified means that you repeated a grade, likely 8th, for the sole purpose of gaining an advantage in athletics. I get where that rubs people the wrong way. What I don't understand is the issue with pre-first kids. A ton of my son's friends did pre-first so they would not be young for their grade. I have never understood the issue there.

My son was born in Oct of 2000. The oldest boy on his team did a pre-first year and was born in June of 2000. He also has teammates that were born in the spring and summer of 2001. That seems pretty balanced. If not, what is the appropriate cut off date?

if your son is 2019 then he is age appropriate, the other kid should be 2018.

I think the best compromise is to have a 12 month window for the teams 7th grade and below. And then when you hit the 8th grade and above range it should be by what grade you are in no matter how old you are. The point being these grades are the recruitment ages like it or not. But we all can agree that 7th grade and below are not being recruited hard. And if you have a 7th grade stud on age play him up with the 8th graders to be looked at.

OMG ... 7th grade stud? Move him up so he can be looked at? ... Yeah ... this early recruiting mess will change itself soon... The professional desires of a college coach and the adolescent desires if a 14 year old kid are not on parallel tracks ... I have hope that this will become clear to everyone in the next few years when these verbal "commitments" start falling apart.

IMO - A boy should be playing for his friends and the ladies until 11th grade ... not college coaches. What a mess.
