BOTC is opening our Fall 2014 through Summer 2015 thread covering the Boys 2025 age group.

Waiting to see what teams are fielding a true 2025 team. Was leaning toward Millon because I like the more instructional approach and they play local. Heard they are not having a 2 nd grade team now so We may try out for Hurricanes, and Outlaws just to see the process and how he does.

Just finished up a 2024 2nd grade season. Our experience was mixed. My son had fun and loved the comraderie and the gear. Reality is there are very few true 2nd grade teams and even fewer 2nd grade brackets in tournaments. We needed up playing many 3rd grade teams in tourneys and the size difference was significant at times which made it tough to compete.

Yes. Both are going to be 3rd grade. I keep hearing the same about the size disparity. Mostly from express parents. Other kids I coached on 91 and Legacy seemed to play mostly 2nd grade. My main focus is quality instruction. Do the teams ever post the coaches prior to tryouts?

Zummo who is the main owner of Legacy coaches the 2024 team along with former Tewarton finalist Chris Fiore. I think Mike Taylor coach of Dowling just merged in and also has a son this age. Crazy staff for a 3 rd grade team..

Great line up of coaches. Do they practice in ISlip or Smithtown?

91 was nice enough to email the 2025 coaches. 2 varsity coaches and a college coach already signed on. Was very impressed with their response and transparency. One of 3 teams to respond to my emails.

HS coach of 91 player who just signed D1 and was a posted on here about it. 16 yr NCAA College coach who is all over there Twitter feed and the 3rd Varsity Head Coach was from T Birds . Seemed like a very strong lineup of coaches for a 2025 group.

How many kids show up for a specific grade like 2025 at an express , 91 or legacy tryout? How many get cut or what makes them set up a second team . Thanks for the insight

Went to 91/Expresso tryouts last year. Here is what I remember.

Express - tryout was a disaster as they had the 2nd and 3rd graders mixed together and 100+ kids on the field. They ended up with one 2nd grade team. No cuts and actually sent out an email saying the team was short players. Added players over the winter, lost a few too. Ended up with 20+.

91 - pure 2nd grade tryout. very organized. probably 30 kids. took about 12 for the A team and 12 for the B team. Held a 2nd tryout in January where they filled out both rosters.

The only pure 2nd grade teams out there were express, legacy, 91 a/b. Can make the tournament match ups tough as you end up playing a lot of 3rd grade teams.

Do you have to make both tryouts? Some are the same day and would like to attend both?

If you are a new family and the coaches do not know your kid, I would say going to both is absolutely better/necessary. Remember, unless your little guy is an amazing standout, they will need to see him over a longer timeframe (certainly for the A teams). So you need to pick your first choice and get to both of those. Maybe for the second choice you only go one day and cross your fingers.

If you want a shot at 91a then yes. Express, Legacy, 91B no as long as your son is decent. Would give the evaluators a heads up if you're going to miss the 2nd tryout.

When trying out for 91, have they been up front as to what team eack kid has made? Or do they just saythat they made a team.

After the second tryout they post the results on the website by the end of that week. They post the pinnie #s for A and B separately. You also get an email.

They tell you the team you make. It is listed on their web site- they list the team and coaches with the kids listed by number, not name. If your kid doesn't make it at first, they may here in a week or so later- as some kids decline, as they've tried out for a few teams and pick their first choice. GL to you- it is a little stressful for the kids, and even parents because you want your kid to be happy, not disappointed.

Next question is travel schedule. Hoping to find a team that is going to play here on Long Island with maybe one Out of state tournament. Safe to assume at this age there won't be much travel?

Typically the A teams travel much more than the B/C teams. So be careful about what you wish for.

What drills do they do during tryouts for the younger guys?

My experience is: Ground balls left/right...simple catch/throw/cradle left and right, catch and shoot on the run left and right. One on one ground balls to see how much fight they have in them. Just like they get at any good clinic.

The better ones have a good pace to them so they get the kids to stay focused, but at 2nd grade, even the good ones might shoot down a few airplanes with their sticks.

Depending on what they see from your kid, they might even coach him a little to see if he listens and picks things up on the fly.

They look at who is watching (good), who is walking (bad), which kids sit down (not good). You get the idea. At this stage the stick skills seem more important, but as they say, you can't coach height, so if your boy doesn't have skills, he better be big and fast.

At 91 last year, they spent the last 45 minutes doing full field scrimmage. Also did one on ones., line drills (right and left) and butt to butt gbs.

Getting close to tryouts. Looking to get my son started in the right organization with good people and the least amount of drama. My son is decent, can catch and throw . Listens to everything and soaks it in quickly.Hoping to find a team into developing players year in and out. Don't care if we win tournaments. I just want to see him to improve his game and have fun. Any input on 91, express , empire or legacy. So far I like what I have seen a read on Empire and the coach . 91 staff looks amazing but concerned how they are with 8 yr olds. Heard good things about Legacy and Coach Fiore. Express was our 1st choice but have received by far the least amount on info from them . Past players told me don't try out for them until 4th grade. Appreciate any insight other than don't do it.

I would go with a legacy my son played for coach Fiore last year he is amazing with the kids. Not all about winning, really about fun and getting better

You said w/l record didn't matter and skill development was most important. Based on that you might be better off at a bunch of clinics and PAL.

He is 2025. Doing clinics and playing PAL w/ a 2024 team. He can handle playing travel. Was looking for a good mix of coaches and program. Two of the teams we were interested have a similiar tryout date Empire/Legacy. Will teams let you know where you stand after the 1st week of tryouts or will they wait til its over?

They typically wait, or it would seem phoney I think, but I would bet you will know intuitively if he has a shot if you aren't a "my kid is the best" looney tune. But you will be surprised at how many good 7 (and 8) year old kids there are. At the Legacy tryout last year, I knew my son was in the mix, but still was relieved when he made it and I got to avoid telling him bad news. Ended up not playing with them and we ultimately had a good experience where we were. Legacy was Zummo's team (a plus) and he ran the organizational show as well. After, they did what they said regarding acceptances etc.

We are looking for a 2024 A team this year for my son (who as you probably know with any 8 year old is too easily swayed) so I have my own list (that is sort of his list now) with the coach as most important and driving distance next.

For you, from what I can see in your two options are:

1) bigger, good, still young organization that will likely have less really open spots (with Legacy and HDD families to accommodate) but known coaches and program.
2) Smaller, totally new with plenty of open spots most likely with less info on coaches and program but with the Rotanz factor which seems to me like a good thing.

Tough call for Empire with unknowns, but maybe easier at the start and with The need to succeed, maybe you benefit from more focus on your boy once he makes it.

Thanks. Travel is definitely another level. We have seen it at the clinics and also kids he plays PAL with. We are lucky that 2025 is a fresh team for most. Legacy did have a few 2025 kids that played up last year so they are going to have spots on the 2024 team thisn year. Hopefully we both end up there. Thanks again,

I have a life and so does my kid who I would happily let kick you in the balls. Travel lax is what he earned by working hard and doing very well in school last year and by reading extra books and preparing all summer for his start of school tomorrow, all while still practicing a wall ball routine he found for himself on the web. He could have asked for just about anything and guess what, he would have gotten it!

Now go find somewhere else to be bitter and angry, I feel sorry for you and especially your family.

How was the 91 tryout this weekend?
How many kids? Were there good kids?

Heard there was 60+ kids. Every kid seemed at least decent. The coaches were intense and did a lot of scrimmaging before it rained. SOURCE 2 parents and a coach that was there.

I was there and they had probably 50 kids, not quite 60. Plenty of coaches and talent, even if they want two teams like they had last year. It is not easy to decide what kids to take from the group in the middle that are not dominating but still seem like they can play.

Interestingly there were two young ladies, a goalie and a field player. I wasn't sure what the deal was and couldn't ask afterwards b/c of the rain. My son wanted to know what to do! Sort of funny because he has been taught not to be rough with girls and I was not ready to answer, but I told him to treat them like any other player. I'm still trying to see what the deal is there.

Field player is JS daughter. She will be on the A team. Along with the coaches boys and a few of their friends. Leaves you with about 10 spots for A team. They will have a second tryout in January to fill those spots.

Well that will be wierd for the little guys....

2025 only.. 91 (maybe 2 teams) Legacy.. Empire .. Express ( trying but not enough kids yet) LI Bengals (tryouts this weekend) Hurricanes (tryouts coming up) are the ones I know of.

Turf Island doing 2025 team this summer no tryouts first 23 kids to sign up and pay will play. Team is being coached by 2 varsity HS head coaches.

I would not sign up just yet, rumor has it the Honey Badgers are going to fielding a 2025 team. That would be insane if they ran it the same way they do the 4th grade team.

After the 2024 DISASTER last year, I would say NFW! No practices and no wins, the team couldn't even beat the 91 b team and those parents were complaining about their situation.

Seems to me that Legacy is very strong at younger ages 2025 and 2024. Looks like they have smithtown, esm,3 village players. Which are very strong programs.

Why Smithtown or 3Village players/parents would go club at this age makes no sense to me. Strong town programs, solid coaching, etc. Save the time, $ and drama...they grow up fast. 6th, 7th grade...let them go club. Plenty of time.

believe all 3 programs have some kind of connection with each other and pooled their top talented kids together. 3v/smithtown are proven strong programs overall,esm is not,only at few grade levels.

Nothing yet as far as practices on a or b...sit tight. Didn't George (the director) say there would be something soon but to expect mostly training and drills for both teams before they fill out/ finish the rosters in Spring. The way I read into that, some B kids could move up. Seems to me that you have to keep your kid working and not wait for the coaches. If you are on B, you should get the benefit of the HC having his son on the team. I guess that is the hope.

Absolutely true, coaches are doing a good job of teaching these little folks how to really play the game while still keeping it relaxed. It is very difficult to be demanding and lighthearted at the same time. The balance between high school and preschool is surely not easy!

So far I am very pleased with what I see and more importantly what I hear from my little guy.

I understand that some parents are not happy that their kids are not practicing yet, but what part of the tryouts and sign up paperwork said there would be fall practice? The tryouts all said there would be 2015 tournament teams, not fall 2014. After tryouts, they send you a ton of e-mail to offer winter training to get ready for spring. Where did they say to expect more than this?

IMHO if your son is a 2024 B Team player, then he needs drills and stick work, lots of reps, wall ball and bounce back (for free), or you can pay for 2 winter sessions of the 91 DLT at $275 a session through 14 weeks. I know the Titans have directors practice tonight, so ask BS or GB right there what the deal is.

I understand the kids want to get rolling, and now the damn tryouts for all of these teams happen way too soon, but I don't know why people are acting like there should be more.

We've all learned to read, and certainly people reading this website have seen the posts about B teams, so why the surprise?

Don't worry you will have plenty of time to be underwhelmed by in the summer/Spring. You are better off with wall ball anyway.

3rd grade playing 2nd graders

Yeah, not sure why they weren't in the true 3rd grade division considering they are a travel team. They could have dropped a town team down.

7 of the 20 Millon players are 2nd graders. And the other teams in that bracket definitely had 3rd graders. Don't try and take away something good from a good organization.

Maybe the longboards. Others were clearly 2025 teams. Millon is weak b team. You should play the 91 titans or express. They suck worse than you.

Legacy was a 2025 team with 1st graders on it . Millon had 2 really good 3rd graders . Longboards had a pretty solid team from Swr and Riverhead. Greenwich was a 2025 team but was using their 3rd graders in the early games.Lingboards and millon made the finals. Surprised if millon beat them.

It's 2nd grade lacrosse! It was a great day and nice t-shirts! The fact that these programs can field a full team at this age is impressive. Let's see how many are still playing in High School.

I often heard don't burn them out. Don't be to strict. Don't be demanding. They will loose interest. They won't play in HS

Us coaches coach so the child will learn and love the game. And play with their friends or make new ones. The boys who get burnt out never really liked it in the first place. Or played for someone else.. Not themselves or their team. Think back to when you were little, sports was the most important thing in life. Being the fastest strongest or who could throw a football farthest, sink the most free throws or spit the furthest... was a badge of honor... As it should be.

Btw You don't want the boys who half [lacrosse] it playing HS you want them to bail by HS because you want to win.... but you are years away.

Enjoy your drives to the games, find out how his week at school was. Ask did anything funny happen at school. Learn what music he likes... Share yours and play them both loud... Make a favorite sandwich... And share it. Buy that grape soda or big league chew and Make special memories with your child.

On the way home limit the critiques but be truthful... And always tell him you had fun watching them. Tell them that because when they get older they will understand when you ask.... Was that any fun for you?

Don't stress now there will be many ebbs and flows. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. But if he decides not to play in HS no worries. You got 7 yrs. before you cross that bridge.

Millon didn't play down. It was a 2/3rd grade bracket and that is what the team is made of. The boys played together for the first time and did well. The long Boards had numerous 3rd graders as well. It was a good game minus the long boards parents cheering after Millon player was injured on a very questionable hit. No wonder they are complaining and looking for excuses. Sad. It's about the kids learning, playing and having fun.

Longboards looked better against the other teams . Millon had a big middie that did a lot of damage but they beat Legacy 25 by a few goals. Did millon beat Longboards twice? They played last game and finals . I watched the other bracket wolfpack, legacy 24, smith town and Greenwich 24 . Based on those teams Millon was in the right place. Good for them.

No, Millon lost the third game in bracket play and won in the championship thus creating the excuses from the Longboard parents.

If you are referring to played down as in the weaker bracket so they could win. It was the first time they played as team and only has 2 players with previous travel experience so seeing the teams in the A bracket Millon was placed correctly. Its about the kids not the parents ego's!

It definitely was a mixed bracket. 2 Second grade teams pulled out .Legacy and Greenwich were the only 2025 teams although Greenwich used some of the 2024 guys to help out. Millon was listed on the schedule as a 3rd grade team. Longboards were listed as a 2025 but we're most definitely a combination.

My 2025 played up last year, held his own and loved it, if spending some cash to make him happy makes me a psycho so be it. There are more 2025 teams (and psycho parents) than ever. And maybe you are more messed up than me trolling the 2025 site. And don't start showing up at the games, we don't want you.

No one really cares who won. Someone questioned where they too good to play in the division. They were in the proper division and played very good.All kids had an awesome time. Played lacrosse with friends. Made new friends in between games goofing around. Did not hear one coach yelling yesterday. An occasional parent. Luckily the Commack dad was in the other bracket.No kid complained about what grade anyone was in. Every kid dropped to a knee the second any player was down.Coaches were playing there entire benches.Definitely was fun and it's a shame that some people try and put a bad spin on it . It was a good showing by all involved .

You sign up and the tourney officials place you. You can only play where they send you. Good job Million!

What is wrong with you. The A bracket had all 2024. The B bracket was a 2/3 grade . No one played down. There was no straight 2025 bracket. There are few pure 2nd grade teams (2025), that's why it is almost always a 2/3 combo. Every team in that B bracket had a combo mix of 2/3.
Just because a team says 2024 it doesn't mean all the kids are 2024. 2025 kids have to play up like my son did on Millon. Now stop complaining about teams playing down when in fact they are playing up.

You're right legacy and greenwich weren't pure 2nd grade, they had a few 1st graders too. If millon can't get enough interest to fill a 3rd grade team and has to take 2nd graders they should still have to play 2024. Not play down 2025s.

Did they have any 2023s? If they didn't which it sounds that is the case then they were placed in the RIGHT bracket. How do you not understand that? If you hw e a pure 2024 team they will be playing up a lot this year. Come next year they will play against first and second graders as well as thirds.

The bracket was 2/3 bracket . Would have only been Legacy and GW in the bracket if it were pure 2nd. .Based on the games I watched Longboards had more of an A team. Seemed like they have playing together longer. In the other bracket Smithtown and legacy had some 2nd graders on the team but don't think millon belonged in the bracket.
Don't take anything away from any of them. Millon was the champs. Longboards beat them once. Legacy and Greenwich were both highly competitive with 2nd grade teams .Great day of lacrosse .

You don't have to agree with me, but my older son has been on Bandits since the beginning. That team was taken much more seriously than this one. They practiced more and at least had a full roster in the fall so they could build continuity. If you're content with mediocre, good for you. Your life will be easy. That's not what I'm paying for.

I think you might have just pin-pointed the other guys issue. I don't know why we, as parents, should need to set up and plan anything. If the coaches were serious about the team, they would have set it up just like the other coaches did. I think it just shows their level of commitment. I know the head coach has a kid on the team and coaches kids play for free. Is that why he's doing it? Just my 2 cents, but it's a legitimate concern.

Yep. If your kid is playing travel lax at this age, he should be doing skill work every day on his own. Preaching "skills, skills, skills" is a coaching cop out. I can work on skills. that's not what we're paying for.

You are paying for what the said on the tryout sheet, you have already had more practice than that and a tournament. Have you asked the coach and spoken to the 91 office to set it up? I guess not.

Throwing the baseball and following through is like his shot, over the top. He is going to DLT and will play indoors with our town indoors and getting ready. This is a supposed "elite" team (even at this early age) that is for children and parent who are serious about lax. My son is a competitor. He doesn't like to lose. Neither should yours if he is on this team. If you didn't care about winning you would have gone out for a lesser team, but you didn't. Team 91 has a reputation of winning and producing great lax players. This is not an "every kid gets a cookie" team. If that's what you're looking for then maybe YOU should be the one moving on. We need kids to play defense. That's what they should be looking for at tryouts. But they won't. We'll get 6 more weak middies.

May I ask a serious question? How many teams actually provide the minimum that was stated? Very few. And none of the top teams in each age group. The organization's successful teams go far beyond the minimum and that started from jump street. Sure they charge for it, but that's the nature of the beast and you should have expected that when you joined. If I'm not ripping the kids, I'm expressing my feelings about how the team is being handled. I never said we had weak middies. All we have is middies. And, do you think the kids at tryouts yesterday were stronger than the kids at September's tryout? It's possible, but I think not.

Dear 2025 parents - I just red the last few pages and wanted to post about my experiences, I have 4 kids that have gone through the process, my oldest played in college and is out now, when he started I think that travel started in about 5th grade, I have a senior in high school that is signed to play in college and I have a 2017 that is going through the recruiting process right now. The single biggest advice I can share is do what ever you want for your kid and don't me influenced by what other people are doing. If your kid wants to play lacrosse only 24/7 and you are OK with it then do that, if he wants to play 5 other sports and he has fun doing it then let him do that. As I have gone through the recruiting process 3 times I see the exact same things from 2006 and last weekend - grades and athleticism and usually always in that order.

IMHO, up until 8th or 9th grade they will get just as much out of playing soccer, football, tennis, wrestling or basketball as playing organized lacrosse - the best players in my town and the ones going on to play in college all have one major thing in common....they love playing lacrosse, If your dream is to have your son play college lacrosse make sure he loves the game.

Always pick your team by the coaches not the organization or level of play, plenty on kids are going to top colleges that where on b and c teams early on. and those kids spend more time on the wall or shooting at the park by themselves then they ever spend at team practice.

If your son is fighting about not wanting to go to practice then he is probably doing to much, if they don't want to go down to the park and shoot then they are probably doing to much.

Never play for a team that your son is the best player, he will never get better.

Took a break from putting up the Christmas decorations to see what's going on in the lax world. This topic is 2nd from the top on the main forum board . Don't have a kid this age, have one out of college and two in college. 1 played DI lax, another is playing now. Word of advice, RELAX!! The venom coming from you parents toward one another is disgusting. Your children see how you speak and behave. Trust me, no matter how good your your little boy is, YOU are making him into a monster. College coaches want coachable kids, team players and those who will work for the better of the team, NOT themselves. The star in 5th grade may never play in high school. The young boy who gets burned out from his father constantly talking lax and living through him will turn away from the sport. Your kids will behave toward others as you do. Set an example, and start on this board. Take time to speak to your kid about his schoolwork, in the end THAT will make all the difference in where he could eventually end up playing lax at the college level! I didn't come on here to preach, just take it from someone who has been there, enjoy these days, they go too fast. In the end what you will hope to raise is a well rounded respectful young man who can stand on his own and make you proud, with or without a lacrosse stick in his hand. Kids at this age should be playing different sports. I bet half of the team needs to improve their reading and handwriting at this age to make the state benchmarks. Some probably just turned 7 this Fall! Having older boys I get the need for team work and positional drills, but honestly, you can't work on plays or as a team when you are still learning to throw and catch, which these kids are still in need of. This winter, the kids would benefit most from picking up a stick and hitting a wall. They need to strengthen skill before they can start to work as a team. Who wants to practice a play to pass the ball when one kid can't throw accurately and another can't catch? Clinics to help them pass and catch would be the best way to spend your money. Once they sharpen those skills, they will be better off working as a team. Oh and in between, you should be reading with them every night for 30 minutes- because that is what will really make a difference in life- their education. Imagine if parents spent this much time wishing their kids could have extra schooling and make the best grades? If parents only put in a quarter of time or money on education as they do in lax kids wouldn't need to worry about lax scholarships because they'd make the team and get academic money. Your kids are young- think clearly and wisely about what they really need to be successful. Your priorities will be their priorities.

To be a varsity coach you just need to be a teacher in the district and apply for the opening. Most seniority wins. Connetquot had a total powerhouse before coach took over. they are 20-31 since. I'd like to see coach Nihls take over as HC. He's got a much better coaching pedigree. I'm not as disappointed at the dad posting, but I would love for them to push the boys a little bit.

Burnout happens when YOU PUSH your kids to do something that they are not inclined to do on their own. That doesn't mean I'm into seeing my kids in 2-a-days, or more than once a week during winter for that matter. But they are 7 yr old kids. Last time I checked, they have endless energy and my kids too love the game and enjoy working hard.

Why does a coach tell the team to show up an hour before the game begins and then he strolls in 10 minutes before the game starts, if you are not going to take this serious then you should consider not coaching . We all know the coaches do not pay to play but the entire team does and it is not right !!!!

Noticed the same thing at another tournament with one of the HIgh School coaches that are running a 25 team . Dad warmed the team up and coach showed up just before faceoff

These guys have zero clue how to coach little kids but the one thing they do know is to never have there kid off the field. The last tourney they both were on the field and having zero clue as to what was going on the sideline, not one time did they try to teach the kids anything about the game .....

There are expectations that come along with coaching a 91 A team. It doesn't matter if a player is 8 or 18. The coach should take it as seriously as the parents. Lacrosse has changed greatly in the last 5 years. If he has the wrong attitude, find a new coach.

I think you are half right. The part that no one likes a Debbie downer. Another part is when on 91 or any other team you can be replaced.

The part I think you don't get is, people are paying good money to get coaching and organization. Stop thinking you owe these teams anything but the fee. These teams owe you, you pay them, you are paying for a service. They need to understand they need to provide the service to an acceptable expectation. You are the customer.

Sure they all give you a minimum expectation but if you have an issue sometimes it is best to air your issues to the coach and organization. Other times this is a very good forum to open peoples eyes.

One thing is 2025's are young. There is no substitute for dad having a catch with them and playing fiddle sticks and fooling around in the yard or street or watching the college or HS games.

I hope the coach had a good reason for being late (it happens) and I hope for the boys it isn't a show of things to come. it is a fun ride when everybody gets along and everyone plays their part parent/coach/player.

Golden geese vs Taz? Seriously?

That will change again tomorrow. Remember on Monday when the geese were scheduled to play the Pack? That seems like weeks ago already. The 2024/25 bracket changed 4 times already. It's safe to assume it will change again.

They can take it easy on them, so at least they won't get hurt.

As a parent of a 2024 I just wanted to post here to say I give the geese a lot of credit. They definitely got better today and competed. With the other 2025 dropping out they played up all day. Good for them.

Bengals 2025 has 3rd graders on it too. Embarrassing for a new programs that claims they do everything the right way.

The Bengals are an embarrassment. They make teams with 13 kids on it with different grades. And they are horrible. The market is flooded with so many organizations. You are going to see more organizations combining grades just to fill
out a team. These guys are all educators who are trying to grab money where ever
they can. Just finish out this year and sail off into the sunset.

The team you questioned had 3 teams at McGrath and won the championship with 2 of them. 2025 was all 2nd graders and won, 2019 was a mix of about 60% 7th graders playing up and the rest were 8th in their natural bracket and won. 2021 played their first game against a team that had at least 6 7th/8th graders as they are from the same general area and everyone knows those kids. They are also the same kids they played all game and still only won by a couple of goals. Plus it's the worst I've seen that team play - not only that game all tournament long. They deserved to lose. 2021 went 1-2 losing to that team and another that ended up winning the whole tournament in that bracket they were very good from Franklin Square.

As a parent with my kid on one of the three teams and this being our first year with them. We actually stayed to watch their younger team play and it was the best game we saw all day. It literally came down to the last second. Both teams played great!

All games we saw not even ours were competitive and the tournament is run for the right reasons. THESE ARE KIDS! I know we forget that but it's kids and they had fun and it was well run. We hope we are back there next year.

I'm sure the Bengals will try to steal more money next year. They charge you as a travel team yet they play town tourneys. So lame. Having 3rd graders on a 2nd grade team is terrible. Time to close up shop fellas.

The 2025 team was not all 2nd graders there were 3rd graders on that team.

Based on information I've heard it was a single 3rd grader. You'd have to talk to the coach to find out if it was intentional or not. One player doesn't change a game though.

what about the multiple fast breaks in the last minute they could have scored on and won the game on but missed all while the 3rd grader was on the sideline? Did they break the rules sure did it effect the outcome not at all. It was ONE 3rd grader who wasn't even the biggest or best player on the team.

I'd be more worried about the other teams that had kids 2 and 3 years older playing down where there was a significant difference.

You should totally make them give their medals back because taking them from 2nd graders is the right thing to do and will really make everyone feel better.

They are a team that has tryouts and cut kids that would classify them as elite, as far as their play on the field it was far from elite, that's probably why they had 3rd graders playing down in the 2nd grade division.

It's not easy to be the B team at this grade. Young kids plus 2/3 brackets plus high expectations from parents. That is the unfortunate truth. BUT, The kids on 91 White got very good coaching and lots of practice. Hope the parents are not going nuts that they don't win. They shouldn't.

Bash at the Beach was tough for them. Played all 3rd grade teams when there was another 2nd grade team in the bracket. It really made no sense that they didn't play Empire 2025 yesterday.

I was asking myself the same question. It's one thing to talk about the actual age group or team in an intelligent or observant manner, but it's another thing to call a team of young kids a joke. It speaks to the sad lives of some people...(here comes "your kid must play on empire bla bla bla")

My son is on 91 White. Losing all 3 is tough on an 8 yr old. But it's been a good year. Coaches have been great and my son has definitely learned a ton.

Well 91Orange we have something to celebrate. I heard over the weekend that Coach B is officially done with us. He's going to Legacy. My brother coaches with Legacy and confirmed it. It wouldn't surprise me if he tried to take our best players with him. Good riddance to him and any that go with him.

Don't worry legacy locking down all the young teams studs just like 91 did years ago that's how you build success my friend from the ground up. 91 was a great organization until they started to have so many umbrella team names and got there hands into everything became all about the money.

I have no connection to 91, but am interested to know how their "umbrella team names" affects the individual experiences of the kids on the team. So what if they have shared ownership with Empire, Hurricanes, 91 tristate, etc. How does this affect the product?

Get real. The "Umbrella" teams are all feeder programs for 91's A and B teams. It's just going to make them stronger. 2025 will work itself out once they find a committed coach and then they will be the top teams in the division. That's just how it works.

Not so sure for 2025. I think legacy has got the momentum now. It only takes one year for the tide to turn.

I'm not really sure what you think, but I think you will see a different scene next year. Just take a look at 2021. Now they have 91 himself. And if you play there, isn't it a given you would want to play for someone who bleeds 91 orange.

All the top 91 teams have a qualified and committed Dad coach who is willing to do way above and beyond. Need to find one of those.

I coach a couple kid's on a [lacrosse] team who play there. didn't know they shared a name. and as for the "sachem" team beating them. the particular "sachem" organization who beat them has always been little brother in lacrosse to the larger sachem sports club. after fourth or fifth grade.....little brothers lacrosse player usually go to sachem sports club. but anyway nice victory beating another second grade team. was that like when John F Kennedy said in his state of address speach......"why does rice play texas?......" they're in second grade. on any given day 91 at any level will dismantle town teams. and as for the braveheart. 91 won beat syag saturday, syag beat 91 sunday. 2 great games. Kids had fun , went to eat candy, go on rides, and went to choclate factory like 8 yr olds should do. That syag team is not a town team. If that's true, then that is really weak. It's OK to lose. Losing makes kids want to win that much more. It teaches them life lessons about the value of hard work and setting goals. Forfeiting teaches acceptance of failure. Not something that we should be allowing young kids to get a taste of. That's shameful.

I'd rather have my kid lose than forfeit. What that showed the kids on the B team is we don't think you can beat the A team never mind the other team. That was unfair to all the kids and parents who paid good money to see their children TRY to get to the Championship game not let's get the league to win the championship. I agree with they are only 7 and the actions displayed by the coaches this weekend has me thinking twice about the kind of league 91 is.

I'm not sure about that. From a parent perspective, we are paying for an elite product, ie: top-notch coaching, quality training, etc... I don't believe that the "top team" in an age group should lose to a town team comprised of 1st and 2nd graders. With all due respect, it's not what we're paying for and its a clear reflection of the coaching.

You can teach a 7 year old to pass and dodge. You can teach him to accept failure. The action is indefensible.

In the end both teams played there hearts out!! They are 7-8 and they played in over 90• weather. There is no need to bash the towns these kids live in, they worked hard and won. I'm sure they will meet again at another tournament and the kids will play to win again! As for 91 what they did was wrong and those kids worked hard all weekend to play. I'm sure this was a weekend of fun,memories, and friends for both teams!!

The team that got the wrong end of things was Moontown (I have no idea who they are or where they are from). As per Tourney Machine, the forfeit was for the last scheduled game, and it ensured that Orange made the CG at the expense of Mootown. The heat can not be used as an excuse because if it was too hot for the forfeited game, than it was too hot for the CG.

91 appears to be a great organization. They clearly know how to coach, and I can only assume the kids have fun and are getting better, simply because there are no shortage of families lining up to have their sons play with them. This seems to have been a poor business decision. This is a 91 owned tournament that appears to lack enrollment other than from 91 owned teams. What are teams going to think when word spreads as to what happened to Mootown? Not the best action to take if you want to attract non-91 clubs. And please, spare me with the "they are only 8 years old ... who cares ..." nonsense. If this is true, than why even have a championship game? I am sure the Mootown kids would have liked to have had an opportunity to have one more game.

It just seems to me that if I am running a for-profit tounament I would want the most teams possible. More teams means more profit. If it were also true that teams from clubs I own were competing, I would do everything in my power to be as gracious and sporting to my "guests" as possible, and eliminate even the perception of favoritism for my own clubs. I would think this would attract more business in the future. I know 91 wants to win 'ships for marketing purposes, but they will win plenty on merit alone.

White was down 4 or 5 to 1, 20 minutes into the game. The building lost power, lights went out, fans were shut down for half of that. The end result of that game was already determined, so all the chatter on here is nonsense. Kids safety comes first, believe it or not. If it really is a bunch of SAC parents posting on here, focus more on teaching your kids how to play the game correctly rather than 2 kids running the team and committing cheap fouls. Rest of the SAC families should be pissed their kids didn't see the ball. 91 will be just fine going forward when it matters. For the rest of the SAC kids, great job this weekend. Keep playing the game the right way, you have a lot to be proud of.

It's a game people by the time these kids grow up hopefully the parents do as well! What was done this past weekend was a disgrace and rumor has it 91 is pulling all there teams from stony brook this weekend as well so they don't have to play! What are you people doing and teaching these kids? Let them play the damn "game" let them be kids and stop trying to live threw your kids! You guys have a long way to go, most of these kids at this rate will not even be playing at the high school level if u keep this crap up!

I am the author of the post immediately above this one, and I have no connection whatsoever to anything in Sachem. According to tourney machine the game referenced above and the GC were played at the same field (which I believe is the indoor field). Did it get fixed in time for the GC? Did they move the GC outdoors and just didn't update tourney machine? As for the outcome being in doubt, this is not necessarily true, since Orange needed a win, and to beat out Mootown for the tie-breaker. If it was goals against, its possible White would have scored some as the game carried on.

Mootown should have been in the championships not 91. The other team forfeited so the A team could be in the championships.

Forfeit means you didn't play. They played half the game, they were down 4 goals. Power went out, fans shut off, bathrooms were locked, it was like playing in a sauna. The game was over.

Where and when was the CG played?

It was 5 or 6-1 and his kids were getting pounded. The coach did the right thing. I watched parts of it from the space between the fields adjacent to the bubble to see kids whose parents I know. I saw they played with heart but according to the parents their schedule was both finalist teams and the boys were out of gas. From the few minutes I saw it was not competitive but the kids did not quit. The coach made a good call.

It was a 5 team tournament with a 4 game schedule. Every team played the same schedule.
Pounded in the sense of getting physically abused? I doubt it. And your contradicting yourself. If they played with heart and did not quit, than why was it the correct call to end the game. Arguably it would have been ok if the boys were quiting. But if they are playing with heart and not quiting, why not let them keep going.
So in the future, any time a team is down by 4 or 5 goals, but is still playing with heart and not quiting, the coach should pull the plug? Not many lacrosse games are going to get finished I guess.

Your missing the point. Not everyone had the same amount of games per day. Hear the point before you just type. The power shut down, bathrooms were unusable, there were no use of the fans. Kids were almost, it was like 110 degrees indoors. They were playing on fumes. In this rare situationx coach made a good call. Taking my child to hospital on a hershey 8 yr old lacrosse tournament would have sucked. The field was like playing in a dessert. I never , ever quit, however this was a wise call.

Long e-mail based on no info. Score was 6-1 and White was getting crushed. They were not going to win and it was more likely a kid would get hurt.

Mootown gave up 17 goals, 91 Orange 9, The score was 6-1 when the game was ended and there was no way that White was going to score 8 goals so Mootown could advance. 91 Orange defense never gave up more than 4 goals in regulation in any of their games.

The championship game was scheduled at the same field shortly after this game was aborted. Where was that game played? If at the same indoor location, were the sundry issues with the facility fixed?

Power came on about an hour after it went out. It was a field 25 yards bigger than normal. Beyond hot. It was like a game in arizona.

SYAG was around long before Sachem sports club. Little brother I don't think so. People who care more about ALL the kids and not just looking to have the best A team out there Yes. Well I think this 2nd grade little brother team beat there "older brothers" as you put it during the season. No everyone one does not move there just some kids that get continuous pressure from that organization with the promise of you'll only play in hs if you play here. Like they tried with my oldest, but he stayed in SYAG started in HS and is now a starter in college.

so every game that a team is up by 5 it should be called. Ive seen 91 teams hand to other teams go up by 15 and not lay off. So cause was it cause its his own program or really for the kids.

Hey do you read prior posts, or do you just write. The point, for the 3rd time, it was awful conditions. It was 110 on the field, power went out, do you get it. No power. No bathrooms, no fan ventilation, field was extra large. Kids were going to pass out. Going to hospital to get iv shots at hershey dosent sound fun. The game I agree, no team should stop until final whistle, this was a rare case. Do you understand. Just watching game we were drenched. Kids were so wet, it looked like they went swimming. Lizards were pulled of the field due to lightning, mets and yankees get rained out or delayed. These are grown men. 8 yr old kids going to ER in hershey, its called logic. Ok there knute rockne. 8 yr old kids about to faint, it was a good move.

So lets try to get some closure to this back and forth.

Instead of going home, 91 orange and SYAG decide to wait to see if power comes on - similar to waiting out a thunder storm. They are led to believe that with the fans spinning, it would no longer be unsafe to play.
After about an hour, power is back up. The fans spin. The temps cool just a bit. Its decided that its safe to play.

I don't have a problem with any of this if all of this is true, although my opinion means nothing I guess.

The better question, is why have a summer tournament played indoors. Seems stupid and unecessary. To the extent that I have a say, and I might, I will try to avoid this one in the future.

And I don't get the constant reference to bathrooms being shut down. What did that have to do with the facility losing power? Did they have electronically controlled locks that shut down when power was lost?

After reading your post. Leave it at this, because I was there. I don't know nor care if you were. It was almost unplayable. 15 kids playing on 130 yard field, unable to cool off. When power was on , kids sat in aircondirioner between games in lobby area. Picture sitting on a hot beach, but no ocean. It sucked. I never quit anything in my life, I never would allow my kids to quit. This was a wise choice to call this game at the half. The bathroom reference means when you want to go wet your face like a human, you are unable to. The doors were locked. Ok do you understand.

That's bull. White quit the game so orange could face Syag. White and orange's game started at 1:15 and the ended at 1:33. Then the orange coaches (Steve Costelo) approached the Syag coach asking him to push up the championship game to 2pm instead of 2:45 even knowing the power was out. Power had nothing to due with canceling the game. The power was out while the championship was going on and was out the whole time. 91 is a fraud and anyone who buys into their program beware. They can not take losing and it's a joke. Just face it you lose and get on with it. Just like they will lose at Stony Brook this weekend.

Orange was facing syag, either way. Is that not true. Every parent and every player wanted out of that indoor field asap. Nobody wanted to stay, it sucked.

So let's assume that white was going to lose anyway. How does this effect Mootown's ability to make the championships? Was it a goals against thing? Did they get screwed because white handed the game to orange without potentially scoring another goal or two? If so, I'd be mad as heck of I was on Mootown...

It was more than a goal or two, but that is exactly the problem. There was a lot of time left and anything could have happened. Orange was playing very poorly and had just lost to a team that white had beaten handily the day before. Had white scored more goals, Moontown would go to finals and and orange would not have, regardless if orange was able to win the game. I don't want to hear "it was 2nd grade", because third graders were playing back to back games in the scorching sun outside and the heat index was 108 degrees. They were fine.

This is what you don't understand. If the bathrooms were locked for the aborted game than they were also locked for the championship game as well as other games. This is what's called a fixed variable. Therefore, it's irrelevant that the bathrooms were locked.

I can absolutely imagine the impressive conditions on Sunday. I was watching lacrosse elsewhere with the benefit of the occasional breeze and fresh air. What frustrates a lot of people is the blind adhearance to the idea that conditions were unsafe for lacrosse without any acknowledgement of the fact that a full game was started and completed shortly thereafter.

The field was the same size as the other turf field outside as well as the grass ones. 130 yards? It was a standard multi-use field. Now you're really making up some weird and weak excuses. Was it hot. [lacrosse] yes it was. Was it just as hot outside? You bet. No wind out there either. And no shade. I don't remember any of the other several hundred people outside being afforded a chance to "wet their faces like humans" either. It was hot. Give the kid lots of water like everyone else. The excuses are pitiful.

Either way, No one wanted to face sachem, they are just a very tough team. Not bad for 2nd graders.

Having 8 penalties dosent make a team tough. They were the same team 91 beat up saturday. They gave away a goal to start and lost in a braveheart. Oh and ps, that team is not sachem. Wawawa bottom line 91 lost. Parents on sachem team paid $80 to play in Hershey and WIN and 91 parents paid $1200 plus to lose. Such is life. And your 100% correct sachem had a ton of penalties, showing their kids lack experience in playing. But in the end they still won. That shows something.

Wasn't going to happen, the score was 6-1 and was going to be 12 -2 by the time they were done. 91 had already beaten SLAG and MooTown lost to SLAG by 8. The two teams in the final were the right teams.

Maybe SYAG can double down on this past weekend and get into the Lax Clash. They won't even have to leave town. And their third graders are already playing so they won't have far to go to get any extra help.

If they didn't and were just protecting their kids that makes things better the only one who knows the answer is the coach. As far as other towns being on the Sachem team who cares really. White did not beat anyone handily nor did they beat anyone. They needed to beat orange and beat them by more than 9 goals. Was not happening. Moo Town had some crazy [lacrosse] moms on that sideline. Was great to see one husband tell his wife to settle down.
