It seemed once again the Annapolis Hawks put together another great club team at the 2026 level this past Spring in HOCO but had some hiccups over the summer. PLC came on strong with some added Hawks players from last year along with Looney's and BLC. FCA 2026 played A ball last year but I can see them moving to AA this upcoming year and opening some eyes. This is a fun age to watch for sure!

Long way from HOCO but this should be a fun year. Hope PLC and Green Hornets both move up to AA. Think there are two teams that could have played up.

What is PLC and how are they related to Crabs? Sorry - just getting familiar.

Where are the PLC coaches going? They were a pretty solid team, and I am shocked to hear that they are leaving.

I know they had some former Hawks players on that team, but there was a lot of talent there.

From what I heard, the Crabs tryout was rather light in numbers again, and very little high end talent.

My son attended the FCA 2026 tryouts this past Sunday; in the heat of the day, Lord it was HOT!! I was impressed with the turnout; my guess was 50-60 kids and some BIG kids as well! Definitely talent on the field; we will be going back again Wednesday night at Stevenson.

If true, surprising to hear about PLC. They beat the Hawks and BLC in one of the June Hogan tournaments. Looked like a good program.

My son did not get offered from club he wanted. Scrambling now...Breakers any good? He did get offered from Koopers but I hear that’s a disaster??

depends on where you live and what level of lacrosse you want. Breakers is a B level team, not the greatest. Same with Koopers.

Couldn’t agree more. We played Koopers last year. Most kids from last years team are going to Breakers, so that will just be Koopers part 2. IMO the best bang for your buck in the B league is Kelly Post.

What’s the deal with Crabs at this year? They have enough for a team this year? AA or A?

They will have a team that they will play in either AA or A. Not sure if they have the horses to match up with Bethesda, Looneys, or Hawks.

The crabs brand only plays top tier even without the talent. Since 2023, a true elite team, crabs has had average teams that get stomped.

I heard the crabs tryouts were very weak in talent. Helmets included HoCo, G, Roughriders, Laxworld... Real hard to make an AA team from that.

Few people care about Crabs any more. Crabs was the premier high school club. It expanded down to 5th grade either the 2022 and struggled. 2023 was day dominant. No good teams since then. Too many good clubs that start earier and develop loyalty - fca, looneys, 91 Md.

Come play for us, we will guarantee you will get into the high school you want, even though you are 10 yrs old and high school is 5yrs away. That’s how they get their players. Sleazy as always.

91 added 5 kids from laxworld this year. We will roll through the AA league this year.

Great list. One interesting thing I saw this morning is that Diamondbacks are still looking for players.

91 MD beat Looneys once this spring as well as Madlax and Roughriders.

Not trying to be an butt but on what basis is Looneys the 2nd ranked team in 2026? Have they won any tournaments that BLC and the Diamondbacks were entered in?

BLC won HOCO two years ago, Hawks won this past year. Those two teams seem to win most tournaments. PLC is the only club I have seen that has beaten both.

BLC was the fifth best team in the area this past spring. The HoCo results speak for themselves as do the results from the three tournaments they participated in. They took a step back in every facet of their game as compared to Spring 2017 including goals scored and goals against. I would rank them behind PLC.

New year, lots of movement among clubs as well as new teams formed. Let the past season go. The 10yr olds sure have.

No new clubs aside from maybe the bay raiders will have an impact this year. Some clubs will be down, but the top 4 should still be BLC, Hawks, Looneys, and Diamondbacks.

What basis do you have to say Crabs should be AA? They have not had a team that can compete at AA since 2023. Now tryout numbers. Average players.

not a crabs fan but if they lose to any of the three programs mentioned above they need to immediately cease operations. Not sure why any parent would pay the ridiculous fees for any of these teams. Why not just play for the local rec organization and save your money. Is is really worth $2k so Johnny and Dad can say they play club lax?

I will tell you why ... because junior cannot make the top rec travel team so dad looks for a club at $2000 because roster spots and playing time are available due to market saturation.

Earlier in this thread, there were comments that PLC was folding. Did that officially happen? Would be a shame as they had a nice team.

PLC did not fold. They have a 2026 team.

The kids and coaches on last year's 2026 PLC team are no longer there, they went to a start up program.

The coaches left for AYLC, Bay Dogs and 2 stayed I believe. I did not see a 2026 listed on PLC's website

New to the rodeo? No leagues in the fall, just fall tournament season. I think most 2026 team do about 2-3 tournaments. Anything else at the age of 10 is overkill IMO.

I think HOCO will be a top 10 local team this year. They turned it on at the end of last season, they beat Zingo's twice, tied Green Hornets in a Fall Tournament game and made quite a few changes to their roster since then. I know the coach so I can arrange a play date with him if you want to have a Fall scrimmage.

The reclass shuffle. If I played my boys at 2027 they'd be on any AA Elite team. So much in this sport is broken.

My son played with a big kid all through youth and HS. He was probably 6 ft in 6th grade, he's in college now and may have only grown 2 inches since then. The comments from opposing parents once they saw that he was also an excellent player were embarrassing. "Where's his birth certificate?" "Play with your own age!" "Did you drive to the game?" Some kids are bigger than other kids their age, some kids are better than kids their age, and some are bigger AND better than kids their age. That doesn't make them cheaters.

I have a son on an older team. I watched and was very impressed with that Hawks teams skill level. I assume the core has been together for a while. Defense was great. Attack rode like crazy and a good goalie.

What is the argument to having an age based system where kids move up on their birthday, meaning when a kid turns 11 he plays 11 and under? This way the kids progress naturally from being the youngest to the oldest and, presumably, moving up in importance to the team. I've heard the team cohesion argument and it's ridiculous given the age levels we're talking about. And since USL and tournaments require birth dates upon registration, it's easily policed.

Haven't seen them this year. They were good last year in HOCO though. I wouldn't have guessed that they would blowout the Express teams. Wonder if they got some PLC players.

If Express played in HoCo they would not be a top four team. Long Island is predominantly a public school area so they don’t have older kids like our teams do. That is why you rarely see Maryland teams participate in the WSYL in Denver. Our teams don’t have enough kids that meet the September 1st age cutoff to field a complete team with their regular 19-21 players.

Express is always one of the better U13 teams at WSYL.

Next Level even had to recruit age eligible kids last year to join their WSYL team that did not play on their club in the spring to help them be more competitive in Denver. They were an average team in HoCo last Spring.

Long Island teams at this age are skilled but are behind in size and speed. That of course will change in the next few years.

Fifth grade lacrosse means nothing. It will all change after puberty. Ask any Dad who has a son on a high school age club team. Over 50% of the kids that were on that team in 5th grade are no longer there.

This age should be about developing your boys individual skills and having fun with your friends so there is no burn out.

And yes, the Hawks are a very good 2026 team and playing them is always a great challenge.

This is true look at Madlax. The 8th grade team has maybe one player that was on the team when they were in fifth grade and he is not even a starter.

I personally thing grad year is smart in youth lax. My other son benefited from playing with older, physically bigger kids who reclassed to his grad year. It prepared him more for high school lax. He was able to compete with guys 2-3 years older than him. There’s good in everything. Some of you bozos just need to look for it.

Dad of a Senior is high school here.
He will be graduating at the age of 17. He will be signing a D2 scholarship in Nov.
He played with a top Club team 4th grade to 12th. I fully agree he got better playing with the older private school kids for sure.
But its hard not to sit back at this time and say what if I held him back? I am seeing what his body will look like by the time he hits the field in spring. If he had one more year what could he do?

I can sleep well at night knowing we did it the right way.

One thing to note is he started on the U11 system then into Grade year teams in what 6th or 7th grade. He also lived through the old rule of Sept 1st Jr year.
I am guessing this rule will help boys like my son because the spots will be open longer. But time will only tell.

My kid isn’t a holdback. You completely missed the point of the post stunad. Keep pounding that chest, one day it will get bigger.

That last part is funny. USL only provides insurance. They do not police anything. Tournaments have CYA waivers but could care less about birth dates. Grade based only means that a player is supposed to be in the graduation year 2026, 2025 ect... This could be interpreted as what the parents may do in the future such as re-class, holdback, ect.... Clubs that do this the most run the tournament. There is no enforcement or even a desire to do so. These programs feed private schools that benefit from holdbacks with an extra year of tuition payments. In other words, there is zero motivation to police anything. There are a few age based events but you will not see any top local teams at them.

I think for most kids it drives them out of the sport instead of toward it. I reference the study Malcolm Gladwell and many others have cited regarding NHL hockey juniors in Canada. With today's databases, there's no longer a need for a class based system.

Lacrosse should be just like Hockey. Play with other kids born in your birth year. That way the maximum guaranteed age difference is 12 months. Or like Youth Football that has a weight limit.

In the system we have now the age range in a given game could possibly be 24 months. On my sons fifth grade team the number of months between our youngest and oldest kid is 17 months.

Why not go back to an age based system? College coaches only care about High School Juniors and Seniors. At NLF this past spring in Long Island not a single D1 coach was on the 2021 (rising sophomores) sidelines. I was there. I saw it.

We went to grade based because of early recruiting four years ago but that is no longer relevant.

Go ahead and reply with your "its good to play older kids" viewpoint but maybe your son didn't get a concussion that had to make him sit out of sports and school for a month with dizziness, fatigue and headaches. And before you trash me my son is a high level player on a HoCo AA team and not a bench sitter.

Playing older kids in non contact sports is fine. In the case of contact sports like lacrosse it is completely irresponsible in the pre High School years and is not preparing your son for anything except injury.

What is it going to take for Lacrosse parents to make a stand on this. All it would take is to change HoCo and NLF to age based and the rest of the youth landscape will follow but we are the only ones that can make this change happen.

I wish this was a forum about making our sport better and safer instead of a place where opinions are ridiculed. I guess I'm expecting too much from anonymous posters.

I'm pushing the leaders of my son's club to be proactive on this issue. I encourage you to do the same with your sons club.

Your are missing the true reason that lacrosse is not like the other sports. It is a private school sport and the hold back schools get an extra $25 to $45K a year from parents that send kids to private schools from K-12 if they go an extra year. The clubs use almost rent free fields from the private schools and many also coach at the school. What % of top club programs have STRONG ties to schools? GP, Bullis, BL, MCD, even Spalding. Do not worry if you kid does not hold back and graduates a little too soon they will talk you into a PG or Post Graduate year at yet another $25-40K per year with another school they have a relationship with on the advice of a private college coach who they know. I am not defending it just providing the other side so you know where to place your frustrations. Good luck!

VLC - beat Next Level, Roughriders, and FCA

Crabs at 2-1 were the only other team with a winning record. They only lost to FCA.

Unfortunately, with ten teams entered most teams didn't play each other. Surprise to me is that Diamondbacks went 1-2. I only saw 1/2 of a Diamondbacks game but they didn't look like the same team. Couldn't hang with Bethesda. One parent mentioned that they lost some of their better players to the Hawks.

Still - don't think you can draw any conclusions from this. It is a fall tournament, first *cold* day of the year, and the wind was brutal. Good day but not much to learn from it.

Jeez - this wasn't even a post about the Hawks. I was there and am not a Hawks parent. I watched the first half because the Diamondbacks were arguably the 2nd best team last year and BLC is always a strong program. BLC was controlling all facets of the game against the Diamondbacks. Won most of the faceoffs and controlled possession. Either BLC took a step forward or Diamondbacks took a step back. Or it was a cold flukey game...which it might have been.

Want some level of proof I was there - BLC was in blue jerseys and the game was played on one of the turf baseball fields at Blandair Park. I watched the first half before moving to a different field for my kids own game.

There have been a number of respectful discussions on the top teams in 2026. (It's why there is a board discussing youth lacrosse.) I like the Diamondbacks and their coaches. It's a good program but they didn't look like the same team yesterday. Which was somewhat "confirmed" by a conversation that I had with a parent.

The Diamondbacks have gone downhill ever since they merged with API. I would stay away from that program. Daddy ball is rampant, and the coaching is horrific.

Random question from a relative newbie - does anyone know the general HOCO league schedule? When does it start and when does it end? Is there a break for Spring Breaks?

Trying to plan a large family vacation/reunion and hoping to avoid conflicts.

They won’t have games on easter weekend but will have games the weekend before and after. Start date may change, but should be last weekend in March maybe one week earlier. Championships will be weekend before Memorial Day.

They beat both Express teams in Delaware, pretty easily it sounds like. Hard to judge in October. Some kids are less involved in the fall while they play soccer/football. Plus they are 10/11 year olds so it's not worth it.

Great! Then we will expect them to actually play in the 2026 AA bracket at HoCo this year. PLC played in 2026 A this past spring and didn’t win the regular season or the championship.

HoCo is about consistency over the entire spring. Do that in 2019 and you can call yourself the best.

Also helps to play in the best tournaments like NLF or NAL but you are nowhere to be found in those.

Anonymous bragging about fifth graders strikes again!

It’s great that your kids are winning youth tournaments like Summer Exposure but if your goal is to have your son play high level D3 or D1 lacrosse then you need to put him on a team like the Hawks once he hits high school that will be in tournaments that those coaches will actually be attending.

You need access to the best club tournaments. That is the key along with attending prospect days at the colleges.. Even if your son plays for a great local high school program college coaches don’t have time to go and watch those games.

So instead of bragging about beating the Hawks you should be trying to get your son on the Hawks if you live in the Annapolis area. That is because they have access to the best tournaments.

I don’t live near Annapolis but if I did, placing my son on that Hawks team as early as possible would be the goal.

What is your long term strategy? To keep bragging?

Bethesda 2-1 and didn’t make the playoff bracket

AYLC won the Aloha Autumn CLassic with wins over Harvest, Black Bear and Crabs (11-0) and then VLC in the SHIP

Hopefully they play AA in HOCO in the spring.

I believe that Mad Lax went 2-2. They were 2-1 in the pool and then lost to Hawks in Semis. Good tournament for them. They look improved.

Bethesda knocked off on goal differential. But they also had the hardest schedule in the pool. Spilt with two teams that made they playoff.

Madlax 5 - BBL 7 - BBL made the finals and went 3-2 overall
Madlax 6 - Towermen 4 - Towerman went 1-2
Madlax 12 - South Shore 1 - South Shore didn't win a game
Semis - Madlax 1 - Hawks 4. Hawks went 5-0 to win it

Hawks deserved to win it but also definitely got some breaks with the schedule. Still - a war of attrition given how cold and wet it was. Got to be mentally tough to survive on a day like Saturday. Some of the fields were nearly unplayable.

Shoot, most of them were unplayable. Lots of freezing cold feet and ruined cleats after that day.

How does Hawks play on Turf the whole time?

Nice break down but looking at goals scored vs goals goals against - Express North, BBL, Mad Lax, Bethesda and Legacy are very close together

Hawks scored 34 goals and allowed only 4 in bracket play - maybe they had an easy road

- wash mud off your cleats. Use magic eraser and then wash in washing machine. Let air dry. Add bleach if they are white cleats

- for gloves/ arm pads/shoulder pads- wipe off mud, clean with magic eraser, wash with hex wash which is specifically made for lax gear in washing machine on delicate. Air dry

- take lacrosse head off stick, place in dishwasher top rack. Normal cycle. Leave heat dry on. Air dry the rest of the way till dry. Screw back into stick

VLC looked good against Madlax in a scrimmage a few weeks back. Madlax beat them by maybe 2 goals but it was a tight game all the way through.

In the MD Tournament they beat FCA, NL and RR

VLC beating NL isn't saying much. The 27's of NL are better than the 26's.

Cannons is a mix of 26/27 they arent playing AA in HOCO

They must have lost kids. Last year I saw them play with one or two subs a few times. Still always competitive, if not winning.

It looks like some want greener grass. Off season club jumping has begun.

And as you should Jump clubs but only if its to go to a better club. If you are not playing enough make little Johnny work harder to earn more time.

Shore Boys = 2027 Annapolis Hawks. Too good to play in the 27 brackets apparently. Team has a bunch of eastern shore kids, hence the name i guess. 3or 4 of the eastern shore 2026 Hawks on that team.

Well, no one knows for sure. But some have whispered that they’re the reincarnated souls of the members of the 1922 Johns Hopkins National Championship Team. I don’t believe it though.

There is no way the Hawks 26 kids compete against the 2025 age group, they arent that good

the BLC 2027's, meaning mostly Mater Dei 26's, played and won 3 at the Next Level play day. Does that count? I mean they have over 20 kids on the roster and over 10 are born before 9/1/2008 and 2 are born in 2007. Seems fair.

My 2 cents....

I'm a NL parent (2027), we played when that 2026 Hawks team sat and vice versa so I saw a good chunk of their games from our tents near fields 18/19. They looked pretty good at moments, but that size difference was pretty crazy. The BLC defense was huge, had to be a few close to 5'10-6'0. Assuming that there are some hold backs on BLC and the Crabs, the non hold back Hawks were playing against 13 year olds. That's asking a lot.

I'll put my name to this and not go Anonymous. Chris Wilkins. My son Eli is the 2026 goalie for AYLC, he was the Goalie for PLC the last 2 year and was briefly on both AYLC and the Crabs roster this fall, but we couldn't do both. Hawks are very good, they will be the team to beat this year. (Disclaimer, I am not Hawks dad, but my son had to choose between them and AYLC so I keep an eye on them and know people over there) They kept everyone and added more talent, so that's that. PLC did not "Fold", rather 13 players and the head coach left to go with AYLC as they were starting up the club program. I think I can give my honest opinion of the Crabs since my son played for them for a few months. The problem is 91 and FCA scooped up the top talent in Bmore county early and Crabs are fighting to get what they can. They will pull it together and be successful. Their Brand and time will help. FCA was one of the best teams I saw in the fall and last year and is solid all around. My son played for True in Box lacrosse this winter and we played 91 and they were fast and physical and very good. If Looneys keeps what they had from last year, we played them in a Championship game of some tournament wth PLC and won a 1 goal game. But they were very good. I do not know what happened to Diamondbacks. I believe they suffered the players leaving fate. I think that was our first game with Crabs this fall and beat them pretty good. Cannons 2026 as it was is done, they were awesome, but players and coaches split up. A team that is going to sneak up on people is VLC, they are solid on all levels and have some lights out shooters. I really can't remember too much about the other teams. These are simply some opinions with a name attached from someone who has sat and watched these teams play.

Not a Hawks dad but there's them and everyone else. They killed every team last year and there was no clear cut 2nd place. I'm curious too how they did against the 25's.

Looney's father here. The Hawks were the team to beat last year and I am sure they grabbed some more good players for this season and will be even better. That seems to be how they roll at every grade level. However, they weren't invincible last year. Looneys beat them twice in Millon's 2026 Invitational last June. Looney's won 4-3 on Saturday and then again on Sunday in an epic OT championship (OT was untimed and went on for like 15 minutes!) 7-6. Looney's lost to them in HoCo 4-5. It was the first game of the HoCo season.

Chris Wilkins, I was wondering what happened to that PLC team we played in the Blue Hen Tourney. Looneys tied you guys 6-6 on Saturday and then you beat us in the championship the next day. Great team and well-coached. Your son played great in goal. My boy is the Looney's goalie. Now I know to look out for AYLC this season. Good luck this year!

BTW, whoever said that FCA and Team 91 got all of the 2026 talent in the Baltimore area is not correct. Although Looney's did lose once each to those teams last season (both 1 goal games) we beat both of those teams multiple times each last season (often by pretty big margins). I know some kids who went to 91 this year (the better players from the Lax World team that folded). They will be better this year. I am sure FCA got some more good kids. Not sure either of those teams is going to contend for the HoCo title, but only time will tell. As for Looney's, they kept all of their starters from last year and got deeper at midfield and D. Should be a fun season.

Correct on the Cannons. My son is a 2027 Cannon this year. They are a 26/27 team. Low numbers at 2026 and 2027 while 2025 and 2028 have plenty. This is our first year with them but from what I hear they lost their 2 best players to the Hawks and a few others to other teams. We could certainly use them!!

Chris that is a nice summary and finally an informative post with some thought put into it; nice job!! I am a VLC parent and thank you for the props; we are growing together as a team and definitely headed in the right direction. Hopefully this will continue in the Spring/Summer months. We were in a play date last weekend at St. Andrews in Potomac, Md; VLC, Crabs, Next Level and FCA. We played very well against the Crabs and NL but FCA took it to us; 9 or 8 to 1 I believe. We played them in the Fall and they are vastly improved in all areas of the game. I am curious to see how well they do in the AA HOCO League this year but they beat all 3 AA teams Sunday. Hopefully we will see them again but they are fast and physical offensively and defensively with good ball movement. Crabs is improved but still needs to add some more talent; midfield looked good. Looking forward to the season; GO VLC!!!

Here's what happened yesterday at MadLax for us. AYLC lost 5-4 to BLC blue. Beat Arden/API/Diamondbacks 9-4 and tied SP Green Hornets 2025 team 5-5

Madlax beat API 5-2, beat BLC Blue 6-4, and finished out with a win against PLC 6-2 (could be wrong on the score). All strong teams. Good play day.

Well done by Madlax, they finished last in AA last season at 1-6. Pretty big improvement.

HOCO Schedule is out. LOL, AYLC put in AAA despite them just beating Diamondbacks 9-4 yesterday and Crabs 11-0 in the fall, but they go Elite. Truly the best of the best represented at that top tier!!

Maybe the league wants them to prove themselves being a new team. My guess is that they are better than the crabs at 2026.

Most likely they didn't have another team to move up to even things out. Go dominate the AAA. The division winners should automatically move up, and last place relegated down a division.

I can only imagine the look on Crabs staff and parents faces after 7 weeks at elite. Not to be a donk, but this could really set the crabs back. I can’t imagine they would have a lot of returns the following year if they lay an egg.

I was impressed with Madlax yesterday - they are much improved from previous years. AYLC, BLC, and Madlax all seemed fairly even yesterday. Could picture any of them beating the other on any given day. Will be fun to see how they progress as the season heats up.

Shame AYLC didn't get put into the Elite bracket. They have talented kids and belong in my opinion. I'm sure they will show well in AAA and in tournaments this summer.

Whoever posted that should be embarrassed for caring that much about 4th/5th grade lacrosse. Most of these kids will not even play for these teams through HS. Don't worry in a few years the MD teams will put HS age kids on the 8th grade teams and destroy LI teams as they always have. It is the MD way.

Team 91 Storm lost 3-5 to Madlax 2026 at the Hogan’s Hershey tournament on July 14, 2018. Laxachusetts 2026 beat Madlax 2026 by one in (5-4) semifinal of young Gunz 2018. Same Madlax team that only won one game in Spring HOCO. Consistency is tough for 10-11 year olds. Lots of good teams in this age group that are fun to watch.

Hard to score more than 5 goals when you can't pass and catch. Us MD boys appreciate the laugh tho

Annapolis Hawks - still the team to beat and what everyone else will be chasing this Spring
Arden Diamondbacks - probably should be playing AAA with AYLC moving up to the elite division. Lost many of their players to other local teams
Looney's - seems to be improving each year; always big and physical
BLC - may be the biggest team playing at this level; especially defensively.
Team 91 - have added some talent and should be one of the top teams in this division
Madlax Capital - seemed to have reloaded this spring and can see them competing for one of the playoff spots this year
Crabs - playing Elite on name only; I do not see them winning a game in this division; maybe replaced by VLC or Next Level.
FCA - another new comer to elite level lacrosse; a team to watch out for moving forward. I am not sure how many W's they will post but they will compete.

It's a shame that we will not be in their to make it a truly competitive league with no easy weeks.

My thoughts on the ELITE year....no doubt it will be competitive and its anyones to win...except the Crabs or Arden.
-The Hawks are returning after laying an egg the summer, they lost their goalie which I think will hurt. Other than that they improved. Mike will be trying to hang 40 goals on everyone, and he will need to if his goalie is having a bad game.
-Arden lost a lot of talent. The parents last week were not excited one bit about being ELITE.
-BLC was big, they did have a 4-1 lead vs AYLC last week and blew it. But they still played well and won 5-4
-Looneys is good, they have a big kid on attack that you can lock off with a pesky dpole and he will shut himself down bc hes not getting the ball. That was how we did last summer.
-Team 91/Madlax I am not familiar with
-Crabs was horrible and couldn't transition in the fall, I heard they brought on another goalie, so that may help. Honestly, it is to be expected from a 5th grade start up. Imagine if any other teams had 20 new guys IN FIFTH GRADE! Its safe to say that most of us have 14-15 guys from last year, and 10 of those from 2 years ago. That brings a lot of trust into the game, which turns in to great play.
-If FCA has the same FO guy, they will have plenty of opportunity to get up on these other teams. He was the best in the league IMO, they also have a stud on every line that can ball.

That being said, I still believe the AAA will be competitive, as we (plc/aylc) did find a way to lose vs Next Level and Rough Riders last season, who will will see in AAA.

VLC parent here again and also somewhat bitter. I am not sure how the politics of all this works but IMHO VLC and AYLC should be in the elite division with Arden and Crabs playing AAA. I think those moves would make the Elite Division legit and extremely competitive. Your breakdown of the teams listed in Elite is very accurate. We played FCA a few weeks ago and they still have that FO kid and few other; I am not sure we won a FO and barely had possession. Pretty amazing at this age they have that much talent at the X which goes a long way at this level. We were hoping to be placed in Elite to egt another crack at them so now we are hoping to see them in a few tournaments this Spring. Looking forward to playing AYLC in AAA.

Yep. Certain parents do not discriminate. Over the years, I have cringed at comments from opposing parents, as well as parents of my son's teammates. It isn't exclusive to lacrosse either.

Unfortunately my other child had to hear parents on my son’s team talking trash about him yesterday at the game. It’s really upsetting that parents of 5th graders think their kids are perfect and make no mistakes! As good as your kid may be, or you think they may be, they ARE human and do make mistakes!

Why is the Hawks game against Crabs at BL and not in Howard county like the rest of the league games?

I don't know about Crabs vs. Hawks but I do know that, in the past, some of the Bethesda teams have played HOCO games locally. The league just let the teams report the scores up. I know of one 2024 game between BLC and Madlax that was played at Landon. Just no real sense driving to 45 minutes to HOCO when everyone lives in the same area.

Maybe that is what is happening here?

Teams are really bunched this year. Seems like a lot of parity.

Hawks might be a slight stretch above but not so dominant that they can't be beaten in a single elimination playoff. FCA also undefeated but no one they have beaten has won another game yet. Still TBD in my book.

Maybe this shakes out a bit more but feels like goal differential may matter this season.

To beat the Hawks, FCA is going to have to play a lot better than a 4 score game against the crabs. Seriously, was FCA missing players yesterday? How did they only put up 4 goals?

Hawks play out of Annapolis in AA county and Crabs play out of BL in Baltimore County. Not exactly in the same area. This is strictly to keep this game away from people seeing it.

Driving wise, BL is much longer and more of a hassle to get to than Troy Park for an Annapolis based team. But. Hawks love playing in prestigious places, and HOCO space has become filled, so this makes sense to me.

FCA is undefeated against the Diamondbacks and Crabs. Arguably the 2 teams that have no business in elite. Beating both of those teams by a combined goal differential is 5 is laughable. I’m not saying that FCA is not deserving to be in elite, but I was expecting more. Especially with their FO guy dominating the X

Lots of lax left to play. Thoughts on the season so far?

2 games into the season, second year as a team and 1st year playing at the elite level; relax. I don't think anyone expecting them to be better than .500 but just like most teams they are building and my guess is in a few years will be a top team in the elite division. I saw them yesterday and their defense is pretty solid; offense needs some work.....maybe 2 or 3 players away offensively, not much speed and I think the weakness on offense will show up this week against the Hawks. I don't see their FO dominating the Hawks kid.

Hawks remains the team to beat in the elite division; they are strong at every position but lack some depth defensively. Team 91 is improved as has BLC; I think Looney's has taken a step back; Madlax is solid but not on the same level as Hawks and 91. FCA will be good; the gave 91 a run in their Saturday League and that game could have gone either way. Diamondbacks should be in AAA as should Crabs; although Crabs is slowly getting better; FO guy is good but their offense is non-existent. Not sure how they scored 5 against Madlax? Don't pay attention to AAA so can not speak about any of those teams.

We've played FCA 3 times in the last year, I know they've had some power on offense, that's why I was surprised they only put up 4 on Crabs. But, I understand there was not a lot of scoring in the crabs game, so the FO guy was limited on dominating possession from X. we matched up very evenly with FCA, I was just shocked they only put up 4 goals on a team we put 11 on.

Also, Hawks FO is not in the same league as FCA's, if he was they would have put have put many more goals on Team 91 yesterday. Hawks defense kept those FO losses in check with some great play. It's safe to say FCA's is the best in the business for this league. Unless he's never recovered from that leg injury over the summer.

I agree the FCA kid is the best in the 26 division and their Big LP FO guy is not bad either; I saw him take a few draws this year and he pretty much dominated the X as well. Those two are a nice weapon to have at such a young age. Looney's also has a nice FO kid and Hawks is much improved from last year; I thought that was a glaring weakness on that team and at least that attempted to address it. I also agree the FCA offense against Hawks this weekend will be a major issue against that defense; I do not see them scoring more than 2-3 goals.

The wind was a major factor. It really hindered the passes to the crease. 91 will play Hawks in the county championship, with no wind, and will roll easily over the Hawks.

AAA is right where I thought it would be. AYLC is putting up big scores against AA level teams (what does that even mean these days). It’s giving us time to get the few new guys chances to get on the field and run plays. It’s been fun. Can’t wait to get on the field with RR, VLC, and NL. Those should all be really good competition.

AYLC, Rough Riders, VLC, and NL could compete with anyone in Elite. They should all be in Elite. Hopefully, this summer they all get a shot to play one an another!

Only AYLC can play with these Elite Teams - they have proven that last year and should be playing Elite. Rough Riders, VLC and NL dont play ELite in any other age bracket so what makes you think they can play.

NL and RR do play Elite in other age brackets (NL23 and RR22) VLC is owned by Crabs and I think each club is only allowed one program in Elite (not officially but will usually be that way) but what a club does at one age has nothing to do with another age group. 91 is strong at 24,22 and yes 26 but weak at 23. Why would one age group mean anything about another?

Serious question from someone not from Maryland - do Hawks, peninsula, AYLC, Diamondbacks all recruit kids in the same Annapolis area? How do families choose which team to tryout for?

Hogan, who runs the Hawks, is aware of the drawl the organization has...so he hosts tryouts 2-3 weeks ahead of anyone else, and makes his picks.
The other organizations will have tryouts on different days so everyone can tryout.
Except this year PLC and AYLC were host simultaneously, I think it was a last ditch effort for PLC to retain some players after AYLC opened.
I’m not sure the state of mind for all families when making a choice.
Hawks advertises “We win championships”, and they generally back it up, so that’s a major pull.
PLC commissioners are both well know in the area, so that helps get numbers.
AYLC is new to club, but have been around for 25 plus years, so they have a serious following and a good reputation. For this age group people followed the coach from PLC to AYLC after the split. Sweeping the summer helped bring a lot of kids to tryouts too.

What we did was take our son to tryouts for multiple teams as well as knowing some others he would not have needed to have tried out for and explained to everyone that a decision would not be made until after all tryouts were completed. Fortunately, all the teams were understanding and did not try to pressure us too hard. At the end of the day when we had all the invites, we sat our son down and explained his options and 100% left the decision up to to him. We gave him a day to think it over and get back to us with a decision. That is how our family did it.

Completely Backwards, Try out for all teams, see offers, Look at coaches and resumes, see what level they play in HOCO and tournaments, If below elite level, ignore that Club, pick one that gets your son the most playing time and advancement to be a D1 player, Look at Website , Do they have former D1 players, Tell your son that is the one he is playing for, this isnt a Democracy as he isnt the one forking out the money, ,,,, If not satisfied with your sons team during season ,shop him around and put him on a better club match. Your son will appreciate this as he scores against Duke in the Final Four !

Haha, my son's old team was playing against them a few years ago. First time I had seen them and their baby blue Yeti collection. They jumped to a 3 goal lead early from 3 goals from their giant attackman and the parents were all into the game. Then we went on the beat them by a bunch and the moms were saying "Dont worry boys, you have more than this going for you" and other nonsense.

Hawks has been around along time. Hawks has tryouts and then everyone else follows behind. The Orgs that have been around the longest typically are early. The top orgs will draw 100+ kids to a tryout for an age group. My son tried out for several teams and the numbers werent there for those clubs

How about your kids get better to earn his time on the field. You can’t just throw money at a new org and expect the boys to play.
A top level goalie for this age group has been on a different team every year. He’s not getting any better when he doesn’t know the tendency and habits of his defense.
All the talent but no core group of kids will get you in the same position as the Crabs: 0-7

PLC was in a tournament where we had to play both SWL 2026 teams. We beat the first team 15-0, and the mothers, in the blue and grey camo leggings, all started saying "wait until you play our A team!"
We then beat the A team 11-1. We shut the big kid down just running an ISO dpole on him.
The mom's then talked nasty to our boys, which turned into an ugly confrontation on the parking lot.

We went to Hawks, Crabs, and AYLC tryouts.
Hawks had about 85-90 kids...for maybe 6-8 open spots
AYLC had about 65 kids...for maybe 5-6 open spots
Crabs had about 30 kids...for a full team. However, HC Jim did tell us that he already had his team from the Wednesday tryout, and those 13 kids did not need to participate in the Saturday/Sunday tryouts.

So why have tryouts if there are only 6 spots. Are the other 14 kids that good? Seems like a money grab at $25-30 a pop. Save yourself some money because these kids are not Paul Rabil, Scotty Rodgers or Tucker Durkin

I doubt Hawks have 5-6 roster spots available for any age group. Maybe they tell people that or they told the goalie father that since they might replace a goalie but that seems really high for the Hawks.

If the kids sign up, they might make the team. But they gotta earn it.

It’s also the cheapest way to get skill session.
People pay $60 an hour for training, but get 2/3 days of training for $40 with tryouts.

How often do the top organizations cut a returning player at tryouts? Is that common or once they are in middle school the only additions needed are when players jump ship?

Last summer was a tough one. HC lost his cool on a few kids, he didn’t play others, his goalie left, and had some opportunities with good talent from other teams that beat him. That turned into 6 new guys this season.

Depends on the ego of the coach, and the relationship of the parents. I’ve seen good players whose parents have unknowingly emailed their children off the team with complaints

The boys took the L, 8-4 to Next Level. They are a good team, well coached, and hard working. They got us last year, and beat us again this year. Tough one for sure.
As much as I want to say they had a good face off kid, I’m starting to quickly realize we don’t have a kid who can win a faceoff.
My son was reckless on the crease, got fancy and failed miserably on 3 attempts with BTB’s and shovel shots which could have been dump in goals.
The boys got some work to do for sure, going to be a long week. On to the next one.

Hats off to FCA; they are a solid program and gave us a very good game. We were a little flat today and had a lot of opportunities in this game; we may have been man up at least 10 times in this game and only converted 3 times. Definitely something we need to work on as a team. We handled the X; may have lost 2 or 3 FOs total. We will take the win and move to 3-0. Defensively FCA is solid; #2 and #26 are very good and aren’t afraid to hit; they definitely will pose a challenge to any team moving forward. On to next week.

These are 5th grade boys, some will play in high school and possibly college. They are all learning the game. I watched a couple of age groups the last 3 weeks and the parents are obnoxious. Its easier to sit on the hill or in the corner instead of listening to the parents scream and live through their kids. Yelling at them to shoot when you have no clue what offensive play they are running or yelling to kill him or run him over. This isnt the pros, these kids are learning and having fun. Let the coaches coach, the players play and cheer for your kid.

AYLC parent here. The game was 5-5 at half. Their goalie got hurt. We are right where we should be this season.

I watched that game and AYLC pulled away late in the second half from a team Looney's rolled 14-2 in the Saturday League. This team is hardly elite and would be on the same level as Carbs/Diamondbacks. Sorry Dad was not impressed at all by AYLC.

Watched the back end of this game while 91 was warming up. The score was 13-6, the score keeper did not update the last 2 goals. Not sure what happened to the goalie. He was pulled in the 3rd after a hard shot for a score. It may have been emotions, didn’t see any contact on the play. But he was leaning over on his stick.
91 went on to beat FCA

You were right about this kid. Hawk's short stick locked him off and his emotions got the best of him. Looney's were basically playing man down at some points.

This Crabs score leads me to believe that they are up to their old tricks again. Wouldn't be surprised if they have 25's moved down, or playing for both grad years.

Any top teams should be cautious playing them, and check rosters before the games.

Goalie injured shoulder on that shot, sounded like again. His mom was the one taking pictures and heard her talking to another parent. AYLC pulled away quick. It was a good game first half. AYLC had more steam, but don't agree on elite.

No one said Roughriders was elite.

Crabs did not have any players added to their original roster. Please check the roster and review the goals scored, and the player that scored them against the original roster. Though it is their first win, they have played pretty competitive games (at least the first half) against the prior competition. They will continue to get better.

If you are on this forum with a 10 year old little laxer, I have news for you, you are an obnoxious parent, myself included. None of us should take this as seriously as we do and if you say you don't then you are a flat our liar. We are all stage parents just with a different stage. That's why we are here, because we care that much about our little Johnny that we need to validate ourselves and our kids team through a lacrosse forum....for 10 year olds!!

I hope it was just a stinger, and nothing serious. The kid who shot that was just a big as the goalie, he fired a rocket at him. I think that put the game to 9/10 to 5 at that point. It looked like RR just ran out of gas, and couldn't win a face off. RR has a really tall kid on offense, he would be better suited as a crease style player, his off hand (or lack of) really limits him from the alley.
AYLC had their moments in that game with some quick passing, but their was some slop that went along with it.
It would be nice to see some shift between ELITE and AAA, FCA is bad and we crushed them. Arden seems to be getting worse by the week. No one is touching 91 now that the weather has broke.

You mean just because you are a foot and a half taller then everyone on the field you can't just run through the defender like he tried on every play. Then rolled to his left and the defender didn't even go with him because he knew he couldn't shoot it. Park that dude on the crease and let him eat all day
