Saw the same with Broadneck vs Dematha. Some very talented kids on all 4 teams but the game is supposed to be the fastest game on 2 feet. It was slow and hard to watch. I also watched the girls game between SP and Spalding. The game is really slowed down with no clock

Almost every private/public matchup is like this- Limit possessions and hope to keep it close late.

Question- Why are privates required to play public rules? Home team should dictate the rules that are used.

Of course I doubt any publics would agree to play a private school, using a shot clock.

Get off your MIAA high Horse, until a few years ago, all college lacrosse and MIAA was played like that.

I think its much easier for the privates to play Federation rules. Also, Public schools don't use a shot clock, because there is so much disparity between the teams. The same thing the publics do against the privates, the weaker public school teams to do the really good public schools.

What no thank you! Severna Park gave MIAA the blueprint on how to beat Severn. They haven't been same since!

No one answered the question:

Why are privates required to play public rules? Home team should dictate the rules that are used.

Easy answer:

It's a gentleman's rule to help the vastly weaker public schools. There is very little difference to game play, except federation allows weaker teams to remain competitive:

Both have similar clearing counts/rules.

But Federation allows teams to play stall ball.

Federation allows teams to call timeout to retain possession, anywhere on the field.

Federation requires a running clock if games get out of hand.

All for the weaker teams

Nothing to do do with your EASY answer. Heck publics beat privates most times anyway. The team that will probably win the B conference lost several games against public this year already. Plus you also have a c conference. Good spin though....

The fact is its because of......Insurance. In order for refs and Federation players (95 percent of HS players) to be covered they need to play by approved rules for federation not NCAA.

Dirt bag posting using a kids name. Should be ashamed of yourself and so should this board for allowing it. Freaking toxic environment
What did he do?
Is that the MSJ Head Coaches son? I would guess yes because all of the offense is geared around him

Its a state rule. If a MD public school plays a private school in MD they MUST play by federation rules no exception.
It all has to do with the NFHS Federation rules are designed around safety and for liability purposes they must play federation rules, NO EXCEPTION

South river, Severna Park, Westminster, Kent Island could give some A conference teams a run for their money

So by your argument for last hundred years the rules in the NCAA were set up for the weaker teams. Here is an easy thing... No wonder people have a disdain for parents in the MIAA including other parents in MIAA LOL.

Phhhht it's not superiority, it's money. The softening of rules, in general, has a lot to do with the sport currently focusing on inclusiveness and (economic/participation) growth. And nationally the sport is growing 20% per year. And You want new parents to want their kids to participate. So you make it not impossible for upstart or publicly-funded programs to win games. That's not very controversial.

There's an incredible amount of money at stake in youth lax, and the focus is GROWTH. There's literally a public investors report on the "growing market for lax sticks for 3-7 year olds" available on the web. Can't sell them sticks if it's the only sport (besides basketball) in town with a shot clock, and the kids can't throw and catch. I would argue that the focus on Sixes is part of this - being able to play a formal small sided game if you're in a random town that only has 9 HS kids playing lax. Now you have a team (and that team can buy gear!!!).

And the Spalding JV team team beat BL JV team. Next year will be a different outcome once the JV team moves up to varsity. The current varsity team should ALL be cut, they are over hyped by their hot head daddy’s. Can’t wait for the shake up next year.

Playoffs right now:

Loyola
McD
BL
StP
CH

Are all likely in, barring MSJ/Gilman upsetting someone.

Then Severn/St Mary’s in the final week will likely be a play-in game for the 6 seed.

BL JV is weak this year, but that’s more due to Varsity keeping 50+ guys on a roster instead of more evenly distributing talent. If 5-8 of the varsity benchwarmers were on JV, it would be a huge difference-maker, and there’d likely even be trickle down to the FS level. They play starters deep into the fourth in blowout games so it’s not like those 9/10th graders are seeing the field in a meaningful way. It’s not a way to build a program, but it does keep noisy parents happy since their sons get a jacket.

All of JV is weak this year.

The covid bubble has hit. Numbers are really weird.

Pretty much every varsity team in the state has taken kids that don’t belong anywhere near a varsity field because numbers are so thin. It will pass in 2 years.

Gilman won’t have enough players to field and varsity, JV will no longer exist. The coach has destroyed the schools chance from ever being relevant. If the school doesn’t and fire the coach look for a drop to the B conference. Middle school lacrosse players are jumping ship as well as a few of their “ better” freshmen. Dumpster fire !!!

So with the Spalding JV team featuring at least one player migrated from V, what does that mean for playoffs?

We need a JV forum for the ABS moms, they just don’t understand. JV and Varsity are 2 completely different teams and will be completely different when they get to varsity. Make sure you save the sweatshirts and buy the #1 jv team jacket. Good coaches have their players lined up year in, year out and don’t go from a top miaa team to a bottom dweller losing to public’s and Gilman.

There is no V player who is playing with JV. There was a V goalie who played in 2 games while the JV goalie was out and before he played in any MIAA V games. Get your facts straight.
